Damn, Santa! You RIPPPPPED it this year!

These are three albums and artists that I am unfamiliar with and know absolutely nothing about (except the Wailers feature). I am extremely excited to check them out. My Santa gave me a quick breakdown of each and all of them sound exactly up my alley!

  • Robert Ffrench - Wondering
  • Hiroshi Suzuki - Cat
  • Joe Yamanaka & The Wailers - Reggae Vibration

I can never get enough reggae and have always been seeking more jazz/fusion for the collection, which is underrepresented in my collection.

I've always been a difficult one to pick for, and it never ceases to amaze me how well of a job the Santa crew does each year!

My special Santa, @Rip_City - I will report back and send you a run down of my thoughts on each record!

I truly appreciate it!! Thank you again - these choices are perfect. Thanks for the extra stickers as well.

The note also says more is on the way?! That can't be so - this is enough! I will post if/when something else shows up. Thank you!

Best,
Santee

Glad to see it arrived. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Yes, there is another package en route. It should be there this week, as I was at the post office on the same day when I sent both packages.

After a long stressful couple days, I got home today and got to open a box from Santa @duke86fan and it's put the biggest smile on my face. My box was decorated with this rare photograph of Santa trying to be incognito with a mustache.
IMG20241212171933.jpg

Inside the box was two records that I am so excited to add to my collection and since tomorrow will officially be my first day of winter break, I'll be waking up to spin these both.

First up is a record by the band High On Fire. I've only started to explore their discography somewhat recently, but as Dukey wrote in the letter I like related bands and love Sleep, so this is one I need to get into. I also am fascinated by the little bit of background info about the album that was in the letter and it's going to give me something to read about while I listen to this one.

The next album is by a band that I have been very into for the last few years, but because they self-release everything there's no distribution outside of Portugal. You can get them, if you're quick on the draw, on Bandcamp but they're always very limited and often sell out either as soon as they go up or only to their subscribers. The band is Øresund Space Collective and they put out a ton of music. Much like Acid Mothers Temple, they do mostly improvisational live recordings with a rotating cast of musicians. They're a space rock jam band and that's like a match made in heaven for me. Especially given my love of live albums, I'm beyond excited to finally have one of theirs on wax. I can't thank you enough, @duke86fan, you genuinely made my day and no joke probably my holiday season. I'm so grateful for your kindness and attention to detail in your package and card. Thank you!!!

Thank you very much, also that Santa does make a wish deals if you want to become a magical girl (I'm not spoiling it but it's from madoka magica, it's a great account)

High on fire was very last minute, I was going to send you a vmp related record but then the shipping bs happened so I decided to axe that part and add in some fun stoner metal

The only thing I was nervous about with it was that apparently Wikipedia says that particular albums lyrics were inspired by David icke so that kinda scared me. But TDRB told me it probably would be no problem because Matt pike is no antisemite and only one report from NPR has that info

And I was lucky with that oresund space collective album... It cost a lot in shipping to America and I saw it with "2 left" on Bandcamp so I immediately went play on that

Have a lot of fun with this one

well now I have to check out oresund space collective!

Nice job @duke86fan - I had @Hemotep last year (or the year before?) and didn't think to check Bandcamp, but I searched elsewhere for Oresund and didn't find them.

And, I went on to check them out and they've been on my main playlist since then.

I'm a little buzzed and glowy tonight...so going through this thread gives me such good vibes.

To my Santee - shipped on Dec 10, telling me Dec 17th for delivery.

Just got word from my elves that Santa has reached his destination!!!
I just had this happen to me (I was the cricket) with the discord secret satan -- my local PO marks things delivered before they actually, you know, deliver them so my santa was looking at the USPS site going "they handed it to a resident at the address! why won't he say anything!?" and then the next day it dropped on my porch at 8pm!
it happened again, but i got it today! thanks for a very talking heads xmas indeed!

Don't know who sent this, but I'm assuming it's from my Satan because I don't recall ordering any vinyl lately.

Excited to dive into this, haven't heard of Lankum but I like the vibe the cover is giving me, will check it out and ABBA! Who doesn't like a little bit of ABBA, I needed something to just dance away. Really cool, thank you so much whoever you are! Probably one of the fidgeters in the last couple of pages, sorry about that I usually get to my mail once a week, but these days border crossing is difficult and takes a long time so I usually avoid it. 😂🤘

ABBA Gold is truly one of the best albums ever released

Your Santa tried too hard.

Dammit!. That's exactly what tripped me up too! AND reading the replies. Amateur hour over here!
I hesitated for a moment because if he never heard of them, then he probably doesn’t get the joke but I didn’t want to minimize the joke by explaining it.

I also don’t want him to think it is disparaging of Lankum cause that album is totally worth the effort!

So I’m going to out myself as Santa, I’m sure it’d have been figured eventually given the album!

It was my favourite of 2023 and a great contemporary take on Irish music.

There is a second one that was dispatched today and I hope makes it to you for Christmas!

ok, loving oresund space collective. FYI there are a few albums on their bandcamp available now -- relaxing in the himalayas and oily echoes and a couple others. I think I'll be picking up either digital or CD copies, based solely on cost and length, although the covers look amazing and i bet the artwork looks great in a larger format
