Updated to add this:

The new Julia Jacklin will have to grow on me too. I wound up not really listening to her previous two albums all that much, despite enjoying them. I just didn't return much. I was hoping for a big change up on the new one, but it's not too different. There are some standouts already, but I hope it has more replay value for me.

Spinning Stella Donnelly now and enjoying it a lot. It's just hitting the right spots for me right now.

I am spinning the Donnelly right now and really enjoying it. I don’t think I listened to the first album much/if at all, may need to revisit it.

Edit: I also feel much the same about Jacklin.

I finally got my Secretly Society press in and I really like the new Donnelly offering. I spun her older album but I didn’t connect with it as much as this one. It’s very enjoyable but I feel like I need to spin it a couple more times to let it sink in.

This week had some of the nasty.

🔥
  • Szun Waves - Earth Patterns [that ambient/nu jazz blend...]
👍
  • Blackbraid - Blackbraid I [quite good. If you are in the zone for "Native American Atmospheric Black Metal," as it was described, you will be delighted]
  • Stella Donnelly - Flood [this is borderline 🤷‍♂️, but there were enough interesting tracks after a revisit]
  • Matthew Halsall - The Temple Within (EP)
  • Mach-Hommy - Dollar Menu 4 [all along, I knew deep down that Curry would be hogging that cap space. That motherfucker...]
  • Roc Marciano x The Alchemist - The Elephant Man's Bones [the moment I see Boldy James in a feature list, I come running. Alchemist continuing his consistency here]
  • Rachika Nayar - Heaven Come Crashing [should pair well with seeing Ana Roxanne this October! Thanks, @avecigrec]
  • Sedimentum - Suppuration Morphogénésiaque [thanks, @musicjunkiegreg]
  • Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - Let's Turn it Into Sound
🤷‍♂️
  • Julia Jacklin - Pre Pleasure [yep]
  • Li Yilei - Secondary Self
👎

None. It was either at least acceptable or downright putrid.
🤮
  • DJ Khaled - God Did [AI-generated algorithm, the album. A few of these tracks are tolerable, but not even close to enough of them to avoid this tier. Also reminded me why I avoid Eminem's music whenever possible. How did I make it through all 57 minutes, with the incessant "We da best music; anotha one" claims?]
  • Muse - Will of the People [Muse hasn't made an album worth an inkling in over ten years, so the downward trajectory continuing is of no shock. The political themes exercised here are two years too late. Please don't make me listen to this again]
  • Panic! At The Disco - Viva Las Vengeance [I can't stomach Brendon's voice anymore]

This track came up on my Discover Weekly and quickly grabbed my attention. Any time Anthony Green breaks the scream out I get excited.
