The new Kelela might have to take time for me to fully absorb. On the one hand, from a pure sonic standpoint it is gorgeous. The production work and little bits of texture mesh with her incredible voice super well. But it’s a pretty long listen and it’s hard to wrap my head around each song individually. That’s often the case with first listens for me though, so I’m hoping to keep coming back and hearing all the details I’m missing. It does successfully conjure up a physically dark, pulsing atmosphere though.
I just finished listening 🎧 to Raven and OMFG it's absolutely fantastic 🤩I'm stunned by the sheer beauty of this album. It's sensual, sexy and sultry 🔥downtempo R&B, with pulsing slow jams which includes elements of drum & bass and breakbeat tapered by ambient comedowns! AOTY material for me 😉

Are you familiar with her? Cause this ain’t her best work.

Yeah Take Me Apart was more immediately satisfying for me. But I’m liking Raven the more I listen to it. It sounds great on headphones
I think part of what brings this down a notch to me is... Take Me Apart was like this whole alien thing. This sounds like Roni Size with an R&B singer over top. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not as innovative as the last one was.
