Online Vinyl Deals

If anyone sees a Newbury Comics sale, can you tag me and give me a heads up? I know it’s random and infrequent.

There was one last week, so it may be a bit, though they've run 3-4 sales in the last couple months with the Christmas leadup. The current sale is in-store Manga and comics so probably not quite what you're looking for.

It may make sense to sign up for their texts, they're usually good about communicating that way on these sales and don't spam with much else.

People have issues with the BN reissues because they sell like hot cakes and no retailers can seem to keep a lot of those titles in stock, especially when they are priced at those crazy low prices. By now everyone should know what they are getting into by getting these steep discounts from UDiscover. I get that it's frustrating and there isn't much communication (also annoying that they say "in stock" and let you order when they clearly do not have stock left). But at the end of the day, you're getting quality records for really cheap so the waiting is okay with me. I haven't had any issues outside of waiting. I've ordered 20+ albums from them and had no cancellations. I got one damaged record (only sleeve was damaged) and was promptly refunded because they had no more in stock and they told me to keep it.

I've been pretty lucky overall in these sales *knock on wood*. One wrong album sent via Target and got a refund and told to keep it. And I haven't had any cancellations yet.

I completely understand why people are frustrated though and they aren't a very good company to order from. If it was something limited and I was paying retail for it, I'd avoid them like the plague. But for the sale prices, I'm okay with waiting even if it takes a few months to get something.
I've had no real issues with udiscover other than delays.

But I've had 4 records cancelled (so far - still waiting on delivery for 2 more) from Target (2 Nina Simone Acoustic Sounds preorders, 2 Tone Poet preorders) out of 20 ordered since October. I'd approved delays at least once for each of these cancelled records. That's what annoys me - having to jump through all of these hoops within specified timeframes in addition to placing the order, and even when you do all of that, it still can get cancelled anyway. Like, why waste my time with that? Just say it was oversold if that's what happened - don't tell me you're cancelling it because I didn't approve a new delivery date (as if that's a common thing for online retailers to do), even though I actually did. It's not like these records arrive on a specific delivery date anyway.

It just feels like a calculated attempt to piss me off by blaming me for the fact that they can't manage their inventory. Luckily, I've found other retailers who want to sell me these records, so they're getting my money now.

Yea the Target thing is annoying but it seems they hold out hope until they get word that they aren’t getting any more stock. I did have one that got cancelled and then a week later they had that album in stock. If it’s an album I really really want and think it will be out of print or sold out everywhere soon, I’ll order it from Plaidroom or somewhere that I know I’ll receive it from. Otherwise if there’s a Target sale, the discounts have been so good from that sale that it’s annoying if something get cancels but ultimately it’s still worth it for me. I have found that if you order on the very first day you have a better shot at actually receiving the item. I got the Nina Simones from Target pretty much as soon as they got them in.

UDiscover has been awful at communication for me. I legit forget that I have an order places because they don’t let me know when something is out of stock. Speaking of that, I think I do have a UDiscover order that I need to check on haha. Sound of Vinyl is the same way. I’m waiting on something from them but it was a bit of a preorder.

Has anybody received the Jamaican mix (not pressing) of Catch A Fire? I took a punt on an amazon.fr listing that had 11 tracks (rather than the usual album's 9) but I was only sent the half-speed normal version. There's nothing on Discogs. In looking into it, I just found this French website which makes it seem like it's delayed until April (and also hopefully getting a wider release) Bob Marley - Catch A Fire - Original Jamaican Pressing

Things are not looking good for me on either the Target or uDiscover end. I contacted both about my pending orders (Tina Brooks and Donald Byrd TPs). Target says the Brooks album is in “high demand” and that I should wait until February before contacting them again. Meanwhile, uDiscover says that the Byrd is backordered. Consider me annoyed.

So this might be a weird one for this thread but I can't think of a better page for it.

A month or so ago on Reddit a user created a tool called "Discops" (www.discops.com) which, by my luddite understanding, is a web app that alerts you when an item you've submitted for tracking or an item on your wishlist comes up for sale within the parameters you set. I was a bit skeptical but tried it anyway using the item by item method for 5-10 or so of my most wanted. I've gotten only two emails for them and it's done what it said it would do. It helped me snag one of my most wanted items today in my price range.

I think they do mobile alerts and it's possible the Distill.io extension would be quicker but it's worked well for me. Hope it might let people hunt for some goodies. It seems most people either use it for their rare wants or to monitor for cheap pricing on wider want lists

Reddit Post on it:

Sadly this is the risk with ordering those titles from Target/UDiscover. With how popular the sales are + how popular the BN titles are, trying to get them at a real cheap price has its pitfalls.

I have the Dylan Oh Mercy MoFi on backorder through Target. Really hoping it comes through. They just got restocked at MD/MoFi and I just approved a delay so my fingers are crossed...
