Political Discussion

Does anyone else find “Trump derangement syndrome” a particularly ironic pejorative coming from the spin that attempts to rationalize the crazy shit he says?

I think the deck is broken and people at the bottom are desperate. It’s not for nothing that I’ve seen the last 10 years described as the second gilded age. Liberalism is a flawed and broken philosophy and the left haven’t stepped up to the plate at all, they’ve remained fractured and discordant. People, and particularly poor and desperate and undereducated proper with little to lose, turn to oddities and outsiders peddling easy solutions in these situations. That’s why the succession of poor Democrat candidates is so galling.

Eh. It's kind of contingent on the existence of haves and have-nots and growth at all costs. The version you mention is simply the natural destination of it.

When left completely unrestricted and unregulated for sure. We have at various stages tempered and restricted the worst excesses of the market and kept them out of certain public services that market efficiencies don't work in. The last 40 years have been a car crash.

I feel like Bezos and Musk’s recent heal turns is kinda funny.

Initially Dems thought these obscenely wealthy people are different, they care about the same stuff, Amazon named the arena here “Climate Pledge” and Elon was making Electric cars, “these Billionaires care”.

Turns out they are the same as railroad road and oil robber barons of generations past. Now that they have secured their places financially all that matters is holding on to their wealth at all cost even if that means looking the other way or even embracing Fascism.

Disney and Ford were cool with Hitler too. They are all the same.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist. As long as they do our system of governance will never function how it should.

Capitalism by definition will find ways to unrestrict and deregulate itself. It cedes power to the wealthiest among us who are always for themselves. Nowadays it's all unfettered markets, the nightmares of globalization, and the homogenization of the internet, but before that it was the industrial revolution and The Jungle, and before that the slave trade. It's always been bad.

We need a Teddy Roosevelt type to come in an trust bust some shit, sorry Trump isn't it. But even the Rockefeller's and Vanderbilt's of the old days actually did shit for the public like building universities, libraries, hospitals. Other than maybe Bill Gates, large scale philanthropy is not on most billionaires list. I mean Musk has donated 120 million to his Super PAC, can you imagine the good you could do with that kind of money.

Seems like Cuban may be coming round.

Ironic given Musk would have a lot less of a fortune without government funding. Credits that helped sell Teslas and government contracts for Space X. Musk has a broken brain from the messy divorce with Grimes and the issues with his children, one being trans. Covid also broke him like so many people who probably leaned shitty to begin with. Bezos is just a coward looking to keep his fortune. The Washington Post took down Nixon. Now, it's willing to not anger a fascist.

I had paused searching for a condo until after the election because I'm fucking terrified right now. And then a listing that checked all the major boxes sort of fell into my lap.

Just had my offer accepted. It's gonna require adding a roommate for the first time since LA and is a bit of a gamble neighborhood wise considering how inflated prices are.

But it's next to a gorgeous park that the Chicago River runs through, .5 miles from a train line, and my current, vibrant & hipster, neighborhood is only two miles south. Plus, the neighborhood to the north may be a little bit rougher, but it also has some of the best Mediterranean and Thai Food in the city.

I still kick myself over not buying the minute I moved to Chicago, and not just for interest rates reasons. But there is no looking back, only forward... Now Kamala just needs to pull off what's beginning to seem like a miracle.

Congratulations on the new home!

If the orange goon some how managed to win it will likely still be a few years until he comes for us. His “enemy’s from within” list is rather long.

Plus, if he gets elected, the housing crises will remain unsolved so I'll have time to put my place back onto the market without risk of much of a hit and get my $ back while I figure out an exit plan. But I'll definitely have to bail considering my student loan situation and the fact that my 20 year repayment plan will be out the window.
