Political Discussion

The government is going to get more out of the way now when regulations are stripped back, civil servants are dismissed, departments are gutted, and protections are removed. That's not going to benefit the average consumer or make their lives better, safer, or healthier. It's only to benefit corporations and profits. This is where I'm saying people wanting to blow up the system aren't reading the fine print. We're going to have more health scares, contaminations, environmental accidents, worse air and water, etc. If he gets his way on tariffs, everything will cost more as our trade partners are going to reflexively going to add tariffs on all American made goods. That's going to affect farmers, agriculture, and live stock. The only people that will suffer are the people who are already suffering. Elon spelled it out there other day. The middle class is going to be affected in ways they can't contemplate or want to bury their head in the sand on. There are no real plans to benefit the people who voted for Trump. People might not enjoy when Obamacare is rolled back and pre-existing health provisions are gone.

Some former neighbors moved to North Carolina about 10 years ago. We've remained FB friends and even though I shouldn't have, I logged on just to see what the general consensus was. Both of them had posted some shit like "thank you god!" "our prayers were answered" blah blah blah.

It has taken everything in me not to comment and say, "as you are both cancer survivors, once the ACA is repealed, you will become uninsurable". They have a daughter who could be affected by an abortion ban. (she's got enough sense to have voted blue) Both of their sons are married to Latinas - imagine if they were deported along with their 3 grandchildren, doubt that would make them happy.

And, that fucking **** down the street keeps driving by with not one, but two of those stupid fucking pennant flag things showing her support for the adjudicated rapist. Her teen daughter sadly has some behavioral issues to the point where the police have had to come out no less than 10 times in the past 2 months. It's no fucking wonder living with a stupid bitch like that.

Wait til they all see how prices increase due to lack of migrants willing to do the work to get food from farm to supermarkets. Wait til they see that it will be far more difficult to get the items they want in stores. Wait til the fuckstick's tariffs go into effect and prices for everything increase. Wait til someone they know has a miscarriage and can't have a fucking d&c and bleeds out in the hospital parking lot. Wait til they decide that every woman of child bearing years needs to have her periods tracked. Wait til Alito & Thomas retire and fuckhead installs young right wing extremists to the SC for life. Wait til bobby kennedy is in charge of healthcare, and he decides to ban all vaccines. Wait til NOAA is disbanded and the next hurricane hits them without warning. Wait til the next listeria and other food borne outbreaks happen. I'd add, watch what happens to Ukraine but these fuckers don't give a flying fuck.

A friend of mine who is Latino, was born in NY, served in the army for 18 years is now terrified that he will be deported. Some of my gay friends are terrified about their marriages. My eldest is seriously looking for jobs overseas. My youngest is numb and was staring at the wall most of the morning, but went out to run a few miles to help clear her head. Did not help.

I've spent the morning researching retiring to Portugal. Unfortunately, my husband is still a few years too young, which makes me +5 years too young. I have medical conditions that would prevent me from moving to some countries. I don't want to be here anymore. Ever since I was very young and in the gifted and talented program, I've always said that 90% of the US population is stupid. I now think that number might even be higher.

I am livid. Completely disappointed with the USA, yet not at all surprised.

And, I did see that somewhere between 18-20 million votes seem to be unaccounted for - record turnout yet fewer votes cast? Even if that is true, we will never know what really happened so we have to accept the results even if they cheated.

How so? I don't mind being called a prick, but I certainly don't mean to be condescending. I'm nothing if not sincere.

TLK and I see eye to eye on many, many things whether it be politics or music. Years on this forum have made that clear. It's fine that our anger and grief is aimed in different directions. But it was also clear by the time I made the comment you've quoted that anything I say wasn't going to have impact on his immidiate takeways where as Hemotep's might.

See the fact that I brought up her lack of acknowledgment of the economy and or policy perscriptions and was shot down. But then Hemotep said basically the same thing, more succinctly and eloquently, and it didn't receive any pushback.

Seeing what this is all about had me hoping for something but I think that the enthusiasm for Harris was just not there. I don't see this playing out favorably enough.

My brother called me sobbing afraid his wife, who is inches from obtaining her citizenship, will be deported. My friend, who is 1st generation Peruvian and has two very young kids, called me despondent saying he didn't know how to hold himself together in front of his kids right now.

It's all just so very, very depressing. Thanks for letting me vent here even if we all are doing so in different ways.

I have no hope. There was plenty of enthusiasm - she raised over $1B. There will not be a favorable outcome, we are stuck with the fat orange fuck, and I have no doubt that vance will use the 25th amendment section 4 to oust his fat pasty diaper clad ass as soon as he possibly can. That was always the plan and fuckhead was too stupid to recognize it.

I don't think that's gonna happen. Trump is still the cult leader and he doesn't mind being an empty vessal. However, putting Vance into office straight in 2028 very well may.

No way he makes it through the entire term. He'll either become completely fucked with dementia or drop dead of a stroke, coronary or combo of the two.

That said, agreed, he ran to avoid his trials / imprisonment. He does not want the job, so he's going to let his staff do the work.
 
Our condo ain't huge, is often a giant mess, the 3-year-old can be loud and chaotic at times, and the 7-year-old is currently around on weekends... that all said, if any of you ever feel the need to get away in a hurry and need a safe place to land, we will make room for you.

I offer this in hopes none of you wind up actually needing to abandon ship or flee but also in all seriousness that if that happens, I/we will do whatever we can to help.
