Political Discussion

Thank you! This is 10000000000000% how I feel. I feel a little less crazy. So many people acting like there was something Harris or the Dems could have done differently.

Hopefully, everyone will watch this. Not everyone will agree but they will better understand how many of us currently feel.
We are all in the grieving process, how we react is okay, no matter how different it is from one another. This is how I feel right now. Defeated. Angry. Sad. Embarrassed. All of it. Back in the summer, when Biden was still running, I specifically requested today off work just in case I needed a day to not see my MAGA coworkers. When Harris stepped in, I felt better, that I could use the day to celebrate. I truly didn't expect to actually need it to grieve.

This is a big part of it for me. When Biden was the nominee I knew a loss was guaranteed. But she gave me hope. This is the first time I voted ever that I actually got involved and felt hope. I knew there was a chance she would lose but still thought we had it. I kinda wish Biden was still the nominee so I would have never felt that hope at all

You nailed it. The hopefulness being swiftly stomped out is so demoralizing. I just feel a bit lost at the moment.

Abortion and reproduction rights came in third place on the number 1 concern of voters.

The economy was number 1, and the state of our democracy was number 2. What's interesting about the state of our democracy is people from both sides fell into this bucket.

People who voted for Harris feared Trump could mean the end of our Democracy.
While people who voted for Trump were worried about the "enemy within".

I don't think this an accurate description. Germany is struggling economically right now because it's Export based economic Model does not work as well anymore in a World where China and the US are fending of imports.. and german Military is not in a state to be of any greater influence in the world
Happy to be corrected here, as you are closer to it than me.

Germany is still a very dominant economy in the E.U. and still has a powerful armed forces. It is a nuclear power. And Germans tend to be very disciplined - they can, and likely will be, a powerful fighting force, particularly as I understand the equipment is quite up to date.

Mike Johnson says he fully expects the GOP to retain control of the house of representatives and if that should happen you will see the most aggressive first 100 days in history with passing legislation and getting things done.

I feel a lot of people who voted R yesterday because they were upset about their current economic state are about to get a real hard lesson in buyer's remorse because they didn't read the fine print.

This has been the best read on the election I've found today, particularly the section titled "My take".

More of a come back to Earth read imo, legacy media wants you to believe the world is ending and democracy is collapsing but I find that hard to believe. Trump is in office oddly enough because Democracy worked, and somehow 51-60% of this country wants what he represents to represent them. These are our neighbors, friends, family and its important to hear their grievances if we want to make progress with them.

Are there potentially scary times ahead? Yes, particularly for certain demographics in red states. Will this be the last election, I don't think so. In four years we will work to undo whatever damage has been done, and there is power in that. In the mean time we will work to protect those that are most vulnerable, there is power in that.

In times like this I like to re-read Man's Search for Meaning.

"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way." - Viktor Frankel in Auschwitz

"No man should judge unless he asks himself in absolute honesty whether in a similar situation he might not have done the same" - On prisoners who turned on other prisoners for extra food, clothes, etc

"It is apparent that the mere knowledge that a man was either a camp guard or a prisoner tells us almost nothing. Human kindness can be found in all groups, even those which as a whole it would be easy to condemn. The boundaries between groups overlapped and we must not try to simplify matters by saying that these men were angels and those were devils... From all this we may learn that there are two races of men in this world, but only these two - the "race" of the decent man and the "race" of the indecent man. Both are found everywhere, they penetrate into all groups of society... and there fore one occasionally found a decent fellow among the camp guards." - On literal nazi camp guards

Hopefully these words are received well. I mean no harm!

Sorry to correct again but it is not a nuclear Power. In Europe only france, the uk and russia are

I have no hope that the lesson will actually be learned though. Most people will just continue to blame the same people that they always blame for everything. There's no reason to think that will suddenly change.
