Political Discussion

Whelp Bob Casey officially lost his senate seat in PA. Can’t believe they actually voted in that ghoul who lives in fucking Connecticut. Also can’t even put into words how disappointing it is, the first election I ever got active in and volunteered for, and EVERY candidate I supported lost. From the presidency down to the local seats. Feels like a real kick in the balls honestly

Watching the local news, apparently a bunch of local schools on the North Shore (Massachusetts) are going on strike tomorrow. Announced at 5:00pm. Schools have been canceled for tomorrow.

Teachers say pay is too low and classroom sizes are too large. They can't afford to live off their teachers salary and are being burnt out. This has resulted in a lot of teachers leaving the region and relocating and they have had enough.

The official statement from one of the school districts was "They don't condone the strike and it's illegal for teachers to strike in the state of Massachusetts".

It's expected that the teachers will be ordered back into the classrooms tomorrow or face being arrested.
I don't think they can be arrested. You can be fired for participating in a non protected strike, but we have the right to not work and no one can force us unless we're in prison. At most this sounds like they're saying that teacher strikes are not protected in the state even if you're in a union. But strikes historically dgaf because civil disobedience is how you get shit done. It's a tough spot to be in but if they fire the whole district it'll be their own funeral.

It's not so much that they can be arrested for going on strike, it's more of a case of if they are ordered back to work and the strike continues there is a potential that they could be arrested for contempt. Though, I seriously doubt it would ever go that direction.

This is America's "Come to Jesus" moment, I said my peace to those who kept bugging me, from the ones who felt the need to gloat to those who don't understand why I'm not more angry...........you can never win.

I guess I'm taking a very simplistic view of this, having 3 kids I've experienced the push back, the teenage angst, the "you don't understand" moments, and that's where we are. We're at the "Ok, here, you got what you wanted" stage of America, time for that slap in the face, bite in the ass and so on.

All the "smart" people are out there pointing fingers, explaining "why", who's to blame, etc. Guy's, we're to blame, Americans, regardless of all the dust being kicked up. From the continued millions who can't be bothered to actually vote, to those who just don't see the forest through the trees, this didn't happen overnight, it's been brewing for a long, long time.

Maybe DJT will have a moment of enlightenment and actually do good by the people of this country, 😬 , but we got what "we" asked for and America has had a mirror held up in front of it and we've been exposed for what we really are. We really are the stereotype, the WWE fan base, plane and simple, we know it's all bullshit, but we love it anyway. Unfortunately I know a lot of people, "good" people, who would still toss their morals aside to get ahead, even if it's short term, and, at the cost of their principles.............this is who the majority of Americans are, it's always someone else's fault, unless it's to my benefit, in which case, we're all good, sorry it's not working for you.

I'll do what I have to do moving forward to help instill change, but I'm focusing on the change around me, being a better person, helping my friends and family, helping in my local community and so on.

Nothing is forever.

The number of people on my Instagram feed saying "That's my president" and "I'm proud to be an American" right now is disheartening.

If they are white, it appears more that 3/4's are happy about the result of the election. What do these people not understand about what they got?

You might need to utilize that mute and/or block button a bit more aggressively...

I feel ya. I am tired of being outraged/disappointed. My apathy is at an all time high. I am going to be dropping out of this thread real soon and try my best to avoid news/politics and steer my focus to things that bring me happiness and joy, family, friends, music, sports, pop culture, etc…

So it goes.

My insta is basically music related so I don't see that bs.

I've kept my FB mainly to follow bands as well, rarely go on it. I've been toying with culling my friend list and eliminating known trumpers. After thinking about it I've decided I'm not going to do that so when shit gets bad in the next year I can post "Hahahaha fuck you! You got what you voted for"

something something leopards faces....

I know everyone is still very much in the guessing game when trying to explain what went wrong and why Harris did not win.

But the fact that more people are saying the's because the current Democratic Party is too far left and tainted by progressives who are pushing ideas that are deeply unpopular for the majority of Americans than the number of people saying the Democratic Party is too far center / center right and has nothing to run on other than "not Trump" is concerning.

I'm not talking about Mega people saying this. But people within the current establishment that is the Democratic Party.

This leads me to believe that the party is dead if it continues down this path and needs to be replaced by a new party. Or have a serious wakeup call which I don't believe they got, not from this election anyways.

Your interactions with terrible people’s posts must be super high. I have zero political discourse in my Instagram positive or negative.

On Threads, where I do engage politically and where I would assume Meta algorithms are fairly similar to Instagram, the political posts in my feed are filled with shell shocked people disappointed in the election outcome and in America as a whole.

I have zero MAGA posts at all. Absolutely no one is gloating, most are mourning.

I will say if there is a benefit, It does appear that this election was the final nail in the coffin for a large chunk of Twitter users who disliked where musk was taking things but not willing to abandon their large Twitter follower base.

Lots of Sports media and comedy people moving over to Threads and Blue Sky over the last few days. Twitter is becoming more irrelevant by the day and I am all for it.

Moving forward, I plan to have some civil conversations with certain Trumpers I know. Like, what do you expect within his first year? And by mid-term? I am genuinely curious as to what they expect to gain via their beloved leader's victory.
A bunch of my workers are already excited about no taxes on their overtime pay, and yet I am not so sure that will happen.

As the dust (and my emotional state) settles It's more clear to me now why Harris lost, and it certainly isn't about one thing.

Let me start by saying that I complete understand why you feel this way and want to do this. So please don't take this as an attack, but as something I hope you will think about and encourage others like you to think about.

Being able to avoid politics and focus on things that make you happy is the ultimate privilege of white straight men in a fascist reality. Trump isn't coming after you. Your life can go on much as normal because you look like them. But for all the people who have other identities, they can't just ignore politics and go on living their life. This is their life! They are being targeted and white straight male allies being able to hide out in their own lives when things get bad is one reason why minorities often can't trust us as allies. This is when we need to be loud and engaged more than ever. We need to use our privilege to speak out and up for those who are in danger now. Please don't hide on the sidelines. Stay engaged and stay enraged. Peoples lives will depend on it even if it's just so that they know that they aren't alone.

I'm dreading the holidays with my sister this year and hoping she keeps her mouth shut. If she even tries to bring up politics and who she voted for, I may not be able to bite my tongue anymore. For reference, she lives a stones-throw away from the Les Wexner estate and has never wanted for anything in her life. I'm almost certain she voted for Trump the first time and was always deriding Biden during the run-up in this election. I honestly have no idea what would drive her in that direction, but then I look around at her neighborhood and I think the money and people that surround her have started to poison her mind. I just shake my head when I think of how she's lost sight of how she grew up in a middle-class home where I know our parents made sacrifices to see us both have a better life. Her lack of humility and awareness sometimes frustrates me.
