Political Discussion

The whole argument is bonkers. It boils down to:
1. Republicans lower penalty to $0 and 0% of income.
2. Republicans argue that a penalty of $0 and 0% of income can’t be a tax.
3. Therefore the penalty is unconstitutional, so the entire ACA is unconstitutional by extension.

That’s it. How did this argument even make it this far? It’s dumb.
WTF? How can you argue that zero is nothing but also not nothing at the same time in the context of constitutionality? If the penalty is 0, then how can you argue that said penalty is a penalty?

Oh look, Mike Pompeo is creating a human rights commission. Pompeo wants to redefine human rights, and, possibly, what is “human”.

What the fuck is a pro-Trump democrat? Isn’t that a contradiction in terms?

I take it Amy McGrath is the centrist you’re referring to. I can’t vote in KY, but I think considering it’s McConnell, who is worse than Trump, in this case it’s “literally anyone else” than him.
Amy McGrath is the pro trump democrat, and Jim Grey is the boring centrist. Both are as exciting as stale white bread.

Two Republican-appointed judges on the appeals panel today suggested that they might side with a lower court judge who said last year that the whole Obamacare law should be struck down.

Keep in mind: This is a three-judge panel, meaning two of the judges will control the ruling.

About the two sides: Lawyers from the Trump administration and a group of Republican states squared off against attorneys from a coalition of Democratic states and the House of Representatives.

And about the judges: Three 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals judges — one nominated by President Donald Trump, one by George W. Bush and one by Jimmy Carter — heard the arguments. Because the case is before one of the most conservative appellate courts in the country, it is almost guaranteed to wind up in the Supreme Court.

Not surprising. Especially with 2 Republican Judges and 1 Democrat Judge overhearing this case.

Most likely the court will hold up the lower courts decision that the individual mandate is unconstitutional and it will proceed to the Supreme Court.

It probably doesn't matter much anyway because Kentucky is so Republican they will vote for that dipshit anyway. I mean I'm from Tennessee and Phil Bredesen who was one of the best governors we ever had got basically trounced by batshit crazy woman Congressman Marsha Blakburn this past November.

Interesting overview on the Senate and what it has become under Mitch McConnell.

Only 16% of votes in the Senate are related to legislation. Everything else is about filling positions, particularly, judges. There is a mad rush to pack the courts with as many conservative judges as they can. Most likely to block any progressing changes that democrats pass in decades to come.

Also, the senate as become a place where legislation goes to die. If it is not favorable to Trump's agenda there are no debates, and Mitch won't allow the votes to the floor.

It's really crazy when you think about it.

Trump is dangerous but Mitch McConnell can burn in hell. I can't think of one positive thing to say about him other than his kids are democrats.

Trump is expected to issue an executive order on the citizenship question on the 2020 census.

I thought this was all about his war on immigration, but reading more about it I found it has a deeper reach. It has the ability to shift the balance of power in the house of representatives to the GOP's favor and this is likely why they are pushing the issue. Not immigration.

The number of seats in the house of representatives is determined by population. By adding the citizenship question we will not get a true picture of how many people are living in the United States. It is likely people in the country illegally will not be accounted for. Also even if they are in the country legally, minorities will be less likely to answer the census should it ask said question.

Illegal immigrants and minorities or much more likely to live in blue states / high population areas. This means in strong blue areas the number of total seats democrats have could be reduced. So like gerrymandering, this could result in the dilution of the democrats power. And that's really scary when you think about it.

Over our side of the ocean but this is every bit as depressing as Bojo the PM...

That out of touch anachronism of a trot and his interlopers in Momentum continue to destroy a once proud movement that represented the working classes rather than patronised them from London. Fuck off Jezza! Fuck off Momentum!

Just for shits and giggles:

Anyone watching the congress women who Trump attacked over the weekend holding their press confrence?

They quoted some of trumps tweets, and the language was entirely unexpected for broadcast.

I heard "pussies" and "Shit holes" so far over the air

But damn, they are holding their own and putting Trump in his place.
