Political Discussion

Coming back to this because seriously everyone should read this thread, but there‘s an important point in here that I expect to be fully glossed-over if not outright memory-holed during the intra-Dem wars to come...the DCCC blacklisted a lot of organizations that backed progressives in the primaries, organizations that could have been very useful for turnout purposes in the general. Keep this in mind as you hear centrist Dems whining about the damage The Left did to them in this election.

What is the DCCC, I'm not familiar with that acronym. Is this another way of saying the Democratic National Convention?

It also angers me that our own party suppressed any kind of progressivism, any type of change from the Status Quo. We need real change to address the climate, healthcare and redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the top 1%. Yet those are topics centeralist democrats want no part of. Not only are they not for these types of policies and let the lobbyist buy them out, but they continue to feed us lies about how those policies are "unelectable".

Also, wtf at the first reply to the thread and many of the replies. Lots of people attacking AOC.

First, AOC has only been in office 2 years, not 4. And everything she just said went over your head.

Yes, now that the election is effectively over, and I can't be accused of supporting Trump for this anymore, I won't shut up about the democratic party being absolute fucking dogshit at their job. The Biden and dem strategy of trying to appeal to republicans SUCKS, and will get the party annihilated in 2022/24 if it doesn't shift dramatically and immediately. There HAS to be an opposition party.

On the flip side we can say Bold changes is what the radical right is winning on. People want change, they want their wealth and power back. A Qanon follower appeals more to republican voters than a centalist. Playing nice with the other side will get us nowhere.

The Qanon psycho winning is the sign that the party is totally in touch with their base. You think if somebody was a little far right that the party would collectively work to drag them down? No! Dems lose because their leadership is full of ineffectual cowards that don't know what their base wants.

You think I have 55 minutes? What’s the TL;DR

It’s well worth the listen. I prefer the Pod Saves America guys from an ideological standpoint, but the Weeds team has a very real understanding of the nitty gritty.

TL;DR is that our antiqued political system is inherently rigged for rural areas and that we just missed our best shot in years (and foreseeable future) to fix it. And when you combine that with the 6-3 Supreme Court, we are looking at years of GOP control of the legislative process regardless of Biden’s victory.

They also posit that Biden’s focus on the virus while also attempting to place all the sense of danger (as it pertains to democracy) on Trump encouraged people to split their tickets. And that because it’s much easier to mobilize when your party isn’t in the White House—the GOP is at clear advantage when it comes to 2022 and the Georgia special elections.

Except that the only “change” the extremist right is running on is “changing” your representative into someone more openly psychotic. This has been true since 2010. There is no content there, no actual policy prescriptions. Politics as pure symbolism, which is why (in addition to the fact that Trump himself is lazy and stupid) is why they literally couldn’t do anything in four years of power beyond confirming judges and a corporate tax cut. They were no more equipped for Infrastructure Week than they were to deal with a pandemic.

The party needs to be destroyed, root and branch. Salt the earth so nothing can grow.

I feel like the old men and women who run the DNC are totally out of touch with their base. They are only in touch with the status quo of their party. And I don't see that changing for at least a generation after they have all died and new people fill their shoes.

Right now, the best path forward for america would be if the progressives made their own party. Let the right be the far right, the democrats the centralist, and then something new on the left for the progressives.

As much as this would be great, it'll split the Dem vote and the GOP would win EVERYTHING for the next few decades if that happens. The party needs to change from the inside. Pelosi and Schumer not being majority/minority leaders again would be a start

I'm reading that the last drop of votes in AZ were very bad for Trump for him to catch up. He needed 60% and got low 50s. So he's off target now.
I don’t understand AZ, how are mail-ins helping Trump in that state when they’re so overwhelmingly against him in every other state?
