Political Discussion

Probably added an extra sprinkle to his ounce of blow he has for breakfast every morning.

Yea I wonder after one of his last appearances what going on with him? I haven been around a lot of people that were on coke so I couldn’t really give a valid opinion.

Oh. My. God.

My whole workplace is abuzz about the watermarked ballot sting operation that is going to turn this election into a Trump landslide. I'm on an island here, with one other sane coworker. They are calling Trump a genius, and saying 'got him!' about Biden.

I kind of want to quit.
First I'd heard of it. I googled "watermarked ballot sting" and zero reputable sources showed up.

Something I thought about. Trump will hopefully be exposed as a fraud and a loser. What happens to his supporters when his house of cards comes crashing down? His support will not remain at over 70m people. Poll everyone again next year if he's in jail or has fallen off hard, and he won't have 70m people.

Trump has never lost something on this scale before. He's been a "winner" his whole life. His supporters like winners and hate losers. He's going to become quickly powerless to do anything other than just screaming into the void.

GOPers probably come back into the fold. They crazy Trump base may not go back over to the GOP, they may branch off. Do Independent, middle-of-the-road voters come back over to Biden? Since Biden is basically a republican, Biden may be a candidate they can get behind.

I don't know what point I'm trying to make. Trump's support maybe overinflated right now. It should come back down and those voters will need somewhere to go. Dems should embrace working class voters and try and siphon off some of the very casual Trump supporters who Trump was able to support way back in 2016 with all of his broken promises about jobs and manufacturing, etc.
His support will remain because his followers believe in his bullshit. Lock, stock and barrel.

Ron White was right. You can’t fix stupid.

What’s this new conspiracy?
I'm hesitant to post a link here because it's gross.
Factcheck.org already shot it down, but they know they work for the dems so they don't buy that. (they being my coworkers)

The conspiracy is that the Dept of Homeland Security watermarked all the real ballots, so anything without that watermark will be thrown out and Trump wins easily.

Serious question....doesn't each state print its own ballots and does the Department of Homeland Security even have any jurisdiction on elections?

What in the star-spangled fuck is wrong with people

factcheck.org said that exact thing; ballots are printed on a local level. DHS doesn't do that. I mean, I guess if it were a sting that was set up six months ago it's not 100% impossible buuuut....it started at InfoWars, so that's something to think about too.

I mean I love you guys but before progressive ideas can take hold, we’re gonna have to figure out this whole “your side wants to ruin the country” atmosphere to civil discourse, because as many have noted here... most of the country is actually somewhere in the middle and doesn’t understand that they pretty much all want the same thing but have been pitted against each other. Until that rhetoric is squashed a progressive may get elected but isn’t gonna be able to get anything done.

I would posit that the “progressive” and “left” elements of the Democratic Party are the ones whose theory of politics aligns with what you’re saying here, and who are most trying to “squash” the “rhetoric” and get people to focus on areas on which issue polling indicates there is broad consensus across the country and across party lines.

I love how Trump supporters will believe something far fetched like that over the fact that a President who has never touched a 50% approval rating and slides us towards facism could actually lose an election.

This is not what people would consider centrist policies but they are largely popular by the majority of Americans

HOW DENSE CAN THESE FUCKERS BE!? Oh my gosh... They fear big government, but at the same time claim big government will help them and states can't do anything...
They can be plenty dense. Look at last night. Dickhead congratulates down ballot Republicans for their wins but somehow the election is being stolen from him? They are on the same ballot. It’s not even possible.

Why is Trump dangerous? Because he’s a pathological liar who believes his own bullshit. And his followers are too stupid to figure it out.

I think that is wildly oversimplified to the point of gross mischaracterization.

It seems much more accurate (to me) to say that more traditional Democrat populations were brought up with an incrementalist mindset and are very, very cautious about letting any of that go for a grab at a brass ring. It's not just obstinacy.
I agree generally, but I think the problem is even deeper when you’re talking about D party leaders and others who have been active in Democratic politics over the last 30 years. Those people who bought into the DLC/neoliberal mindset have advocated and imposed policies that have destroyed many lives, and done so based on a theory of politics which assumes that better things are not possible, that these destructive policies were the best of the available options. If they were to be proven wrong in that assumption - if someone were to come around and demonstrate that we could have universal healthcare, could have strong labor rights and humane workplaces, that we could have accessible quality education for everyone - those people wouldn’t just be proven wrong, they would have to face some pretty profoundly disturbing implications about their own beliefs and careers.
