Political Discussion

He’s following this playbook to a tee. Makes me want to do some research to see how plausible it all really is.

Just watched this Ted Talk.

Wow, just wow. My mind is blown. Now I'm really afraid.

Does this scenario require at least one state to not certify the election? Or just Trump refusing to concede in a close election?

I think we all knew that the time between the election being called and January was going to be unstable, Trump is being Trump, this isn't a big shock, he's been saying for months what he was going to do, he knew he was going to lose and the game plan was pushing it to the Supreme Court. What is really irritating to me is, where is the rest of the Republican party? You have what, 2, 3, voicing their opinions on this, the rest seemed to have swallowed their tongues or their phrasing is overly cautious "If there was voter fraud the President has the right to pursue it".......but evidence, proof, that's nowhere to be found, the building block to this whole thing is "because I said so"
They are falling in line with Trump because like it or not, he isn't going anywhere in the US political scene. He is a huge vote winner for the Republicans and they know that. They don't care about the democratic process, only themselves.

The states are sending voters to the EC so it would require some states saying because of ongoing litigation the vote of the people was not clear and they have to Iinterfere and nominate people to the EC.

I hope that is the case, because that makes the likelihood of this happening near zero.

States like PA are basically ignoring Trump's claims saying they are completely unfounded.

I still feel you need to produce some actual evidence to move forward as he wants to.
There is literally zero evidence of anything fishy happening.

^^^ Bingo. No one is going to go against the will of the voters in these states. GOP leadership in PA and GA have already said that.

It will not be a contested election. Biden will be President. Trump is going to make A LOT OF NOISE between now and January.

The Ted Talk makes it seem just accusations and pending litigation could be enough.
Naw, he would have to make the EC process not clear somehow to get it to the house. The one thing I don’t get is why send it to the house if you are just gonna make it regional rule anyhow. Just send it to the senate.

This is a frightening proposition and it might not be too far off.

I don’t know. I’m gonna read up on it.

The article above was posted her earlier this year and goes into more detail. As of now it would seem that trumps legal team did not do a good enough job to really carry out lawsuits that cast the results into doubt long enough and it would need a lot of involvement from state legislatures and executives in ,ore than one contested state. Given how not too many GOPs seem to come out openly supporting trumps claims that seems like an uphill battle. Even Mike Pence seems to be completly MIA.
Edit: In the moment we should be happy that it is very unlikely that the team that brought you four seasons total landscaping is able to pull off such a coordinated effort to subvert the election.

I can think of a few reasons.

First, the house represents the people. And the constitution gives them the final say in lots of matters such as this.

Secondly, the senate only has two representatives from a state. If the vote is being decided by the state this could result in multiple split votes and more uncertainty.

This isn't happening. We aren't talking about 700 votes in Florida we are talking about thousands of votes in multiple states. If this were to happen the Portland protests would like Child's play and possibly create a civil war. The states will certify the election and congress will do its job.

We don't change the way America has done things for hundreds of years because a baby in his 70s throws a tantrum. I'd have to think this would terrify moderate Republicans as well.

Moderate Republicans, just like extremist republicans, are terrified of their electorate.

Think about this. If you were gonna stage a coup... all of a sudden choices like a landscaping company make sense. You’re not tying yourself to the money network or the government. You’re showing support from your electorate group.

That sounds far too sensible.
