More Michigan craziness....

The radio host asked Eisen to elaborate on his comments several times, saying what the lawmaker described sounded dangerous. When Miller asked whether Eisen could ensure people would not get hurt, Eisen said no

Not conceding and calling " voter fraud" seems to be the thing in the gop in 2020
Had there been any polls that show how independents feel about election fraud allegations and the election results? I can't imagine it's helping Republicans win them over.

This is such a dangerous hail mary play. Either democracy is destroyed and fascism comes into full force or the participants in this coup completely destroy their future potential. Neither option seems a particularly good outcome for anyone with any shred of sanity.

The largest American demographic when it comes to elections are the people who decide not to vote at all. My guess is that this is just confirming their hesitancy to participate in our government.

True, but surely they can recognize that no evidence has been presented in court and his flimsy cases are getting thrown out left and right.

But if you listen to my father, the courts are throwing out the cases without even seeing the evidence. They are apparently holding on to that evidence for the SCOTUS so the libs can't build a defense. My father again today said shit's going to go down and to make sure I have 2 weeks worth of supplies on hand.

But he doesn't sound like an independent. I was curious how people with no horse in the race see things.

I'm really dumbfounded at how the cuts to public transportation are being made here in MA.

Many of the cuts are not starting the first of the year, but rather the first of the fiscal year which will be July 1st 2021.

So when ridership should be returning and the vaccine is here is when we cut service. This is when we should be restoring service and cuts should have been done 6+ months ago to logically balance the budget. So starting July first ferry service and weekend commuter rail service are being eliminated for at least a year. After 8pm Commuter Rail service on week days is also being cut as well as peak weekday frequency. 25% of bus routes are being eliminated or consolidated into other routes and subway is seeing frequencies cut.

Many who oppose these cuts, including Bostons Mayor are saying that while they say the proposed cuts are temporary for at least 1 year, many of them will likely become permanent. That is because the cuts are through layoffs and equipment reductions. That means after they get through this they will have equipment and talent shortages and huge need for capital to bring service levels back to what they were pre-2020.

Apparently the reason they didn't cut service earlier was financially it would have hurt them more. The state lawmakers provide a budget for the fiscal year. And any unused funds in that budget do not roll over to the MBTA's budget for the following year, they go back to the states general fund. So it's less of a loss for them to run around with empty buses and trains this year and take a loss than it is to to take a loss, and have their funding revert back to the states general fund for not using it.

So going into the 2021 fiscal year, not only is the MBTA's budget cut, they have also operated at a nearly billion dollar loss for the previous year. It's not looking good.

I mean people who are disillusioned with the US government in general. Just the fact that he's trying so hard is plenty for some people to say "yeah there's no point in participating in a ridicuous system like this." A lot more were even disillusioned by making a center-right dude like Biden the opposition in the first place. Some people just don't see two sides or feel even remotely represented, and that's going to get even worse as both parties continue to drift right.

I don't think that both parties are drifting right. It's more that both parties are drifting towards backing corporate monopolies and their billionaire investors...oops, I mean, billionaire campaign donors.

Yesterday there was an Apple News+ story and podcast about how many corporations are ditching Silicon Valley for Texas or Florida. Elon Musk and Tesla being the latest to announce that they are moving their corporate head courters to Austin Texas.

There are three main contributing factors driving companies out of California.

First off is both Texas and Florida have no income tax. This means that CEO's and other executives can bank a lot more profit as they don't have to pay state income tax, and California has one of the highest income taxes in the nation.

Secondly is the cost of real estate is sone of the highest in the nation in Silicon Valley. Corporations can save a lot of money by getting cheap real estate in states like Texas or Florida.

Lastly, COVID-19. Many corporations are unhappy with California's "draconian" COVID-19 restrictions. Elon Musk in particular who has been publicly against Californias restrictions has made this one of the top reasons to move Tesla to Texas. In addition, when it comes to the tech industry, COVID-19 brought working remotely, and post COVID many companies are keeping these policies. So that means they don't need to be in a tech hub to get talent. The majority of their work force can work remotely from where ever they live. So again, this means they don't need such a large corporate office or be located in the expensive tech hub that is Silicon Valley. So covid has helped accelerate the second reason listed.

What about the cases the supreme court declined to hear? Not the right time then either?

Nevermind the fact that if the case was actually solid, there is no need to worry about the opposition being prepared. And they would be given time to prepare anyway.

I wonder how this will affect the long term cost of living in Northern California. Hopefully it will decrease.
