Political Discussion

I was thinking it's time for the Democrats to rip a page from the GOP playbook and make the Supreme Court, and the court system in general, as their main focus going forward.

Because, as Thomas wrote, they're going to come after everything that's not explicitly written in a document that's hundreds of years old.

I feel gutted. For people who have lost loved ones to the ridiculous amount of gun violence. Today, for women. Tomorrow, for children who are potentially going to have less rights, a more divisive country, and gutted regulations and agencies meant to protect them.

This timeline sucks.

God I wish the democrats had the balls to play dirty, they are seriously all talk and no bite. Republicans have changed the game and broke the rules in so many different ways but the Democrats still are trying to play the old “fair” way. I wish we were even half as competent as republicans claim we are, they claim we rigged a presidential election in our favor yet we apparently decided not to rig any of the senate seats we need to actually do something lol

This angers me. Something really needs to be done to control patents as the system is out of control.

The above article is a perfect example of someone innovating a new technology and making it available open source. Meaning it's part of the public domain. Then someone came along, took their idea and patented it. Now the original creator has to licensing fees because of the patent and can not continue to innovate on the project without permission from the patent holder.

And fighting the patent costs 10s of thousands of dollars if not hundreds and will last years. And as per normal, each decision gets appealed to a higher court.

Apple News gave a good opinion piece this morning.

The changes the SCOTUS made will likely be with us for decades. It will become a generational battle for democrats to change. And that is not going to be an easy go for them. They don't have the grassroots infrastructure and decades of rigging the system to their advantage and ideology behind them like the GOP does.

And this is just the first stop in the GOP battle. They are far from done. Things are likely going to get a lot worse before they get better.

In the short term, is much more likely that abortions get banned nationwide than it is that congress reinstates Roe through legislation while the democrats still have the majority. Even with Roe being overturned, Republicans still are likely to take back control of both the house and senate in the 2022 midterm elections. If they get enough people in the senate to be veto proof they will act. Otherwise they just need to wait 2 years to push their agenda when a republican will likely take the presidency.

They will not stop until abortions are illegal nationwide. They do not want people fleeing to blue states to get an abortion or blue states saying they are "safe havens" and refusing to comply with arrest warrants related to abortion. This is something they want to "stick to the libs" and the scary thing is, they more than likely can pull it off.

So far Biden and Pelosi are just saying to go out and vote. This is not enough. Especially when everyone is fed up with the democrats for their inaction, inflation and gas prices. Even if 2 of the 3 have nothing to do with the dems.

It's not possible to patent something that is open and disclosed to the public, anywhere in the world. Something is wrong with this.

EDIT: If there is prior art that kills this, then somebody should ask for a re-examination at the Patent Office because the examiner fucked up. That doesn't cost anywhere as much as a patentability challenge in court.

The system is broken. It's too easy to get awarded a patent for something that you shouldn't be eligible to patent. And once a patent is issued, the battle to challenge it is often long and costly and hard to navigate for the small players.

Re-examination is the way to go if there was a glaring mistake like missed prior art.
