@Lee Newman as if we didn't need any more reasons
We don't want the government to get too powerful, but we're going to let Chase buy up all of the banks (that the government didn't regulate so they were doomed to fail given rising interest rates), because letting companies have unlimited power is going to be totally okay....Supreme Court to hear major case on limiting the power of federal government, a long-term goal of legal conservatives
Mark my words, nothing good will come out of this.
Republicans like DeSantis get angry when you beat them at their own game. See anything that gets filed in the Federal court of Abilene, Texas. DeSantis problem is he sought so much credit for what he did to "Woke Disney" that he fell right into a trap of doing 100% what Disney stipulates in their lawsuit. They were 100% targeted by the government for their speech. They were 100% retaliated against by DeSantis on multiple occasions. And the dumb son of a bitch can't shut up about it. But like Trump, he will whine about Obama judges when even a Trump judge would rule for Disney because they value the rights of corporation against the government over the victory over woke ideology.Ron Desantis has accused Disney of "forum shopping" when Disney sued the new board last week. Basically, Disney filed its lawsuit in the Northern Florida District, which has a judge who was appointed by Obama and who has ruled unfavorably to Ron Desantis policies in the past.
Therefor, Meatball Ron is essentially accusing Disney of being shady and Cherry Picking a judge who will rule in their favor.
When did we get the point that the right doesn't see judges appointed by the left as fit / just. And we categorize judges as "Obama Judges" as a method of throwing mud at them.
Bingo. trump is a dumbass, but desantis is smarter. I like to believe that he's a bit demoralized after the Japan trip, and might reconsider running since the media continually points out how much he is trailing by. That the FL House just passed the repeal of "resign to run" law is sickening. He's a wily one and should be viewed as such. The best thing to come out of this is Disney torpedoing his presidential aspirations. I'd argue DeSantis could be more dangerous than Trump because he 100% weaponizes the government against those who he doesn't like or who go against him.
One of the first responses to Newtown was people rushing out to buy AR-15s since they felt Obama was about to ban them. It wasn't oh my God we really should take a look at how easy these weapons that can destroy our children are to get. It was how does this affect me. I remember cutting off a friend from high school whose response to this was exactly that. He didn't care that families and a community were forever affected by the violence. He only cared that his right to own a weapon he didn't need would be "infringed".It's strange that all of these shocking stories about people being senselessly killed doesn't appear to be causing people to reevaluate how trigger happy they are. If anything they seem emboldened. I'm more convinced than ever that guns are really just a symptom of the disease, which is that lots of Americans just want to know what it's like to kill someone as long as there are no consequences.
Sadly the same here. People posting about a car sitting on the street with someone in it they don't recognize. Suddenly it's suspicious...Yep. My Nextdoor is full of posts where this person is scared of someone who came to their door or this person has someone "suspicious" (usually non-white) who was on the Ring doorbell cam or alley cam. And I'd imagine a lot of those people are Fox News viewers who get a steady diet of white fear. I'm glad my daughters are no longer doing Girl Scouts because I'm convinced someday we're getting a story where some old fucker shoots a Girl Scout who had the audacity of ringing his doorbell. Oh and that's in DFW, yet another hit that Republicans in this state can take pride in given the gun nut culture they've cultivated and encouraged.
It's to the point in our neighborhood that I feel terribly for anyone who is African American or Hispanic who actually lives in the neighborhood. How they must be viewed with suspicion just for walking their dog or taking a piece of mail back to someone's box that got misdelivered. And you can guess the age of the people who typically post this stuff. Just move to the country or far flung exurb where scary minorities don't exist. What's funny is my friend in the suburb says his feed is the exact same. Black Lives Matter was the ultimate boogeyman after George Floyd. People were freaking out about a "Antifa brickpile" that was suspiciously left at the front of their neighborhood. Yeah, that was a construction crew that was building a brick wall around the entrance to the subdivision. The best part is if you point out the only (or most prominent) descriptor of these "suspicious characters" is always their race or signifiers which place them outside the "in class" of the community, everyone will close ranks and say you're the one who made it about race or class.
