I dunu, it’s two days to the RNC, tensions are at an all time . And the Trump machine already spent four years trying to convince us that the incumbent is not of sound mind and he’s paralyzed his opposing party. And now this could turn into the Reichstag fire.

There’s no precedent for THIS in the United States. Not in these circumstances.

Granted, though RFK was assassinated two months before the 1968 DNC. And the 60’s were also very politically charged.

There have been 25 attempted/plotted presidential assassinations since Gerald Ford took office and this is the 3rd time a President has been wounded in an assassination attempt. We like to pretend we live in a "civilized" nation and that these types of thing only happen in "Third World Countries" but we are just fooling ourselves, the USA has always been a violent and bloody place.

It's only surprising because no one got close with W. or Obama and it seemed obvious that it would happen to one of them during their presidencies.

don't know if you haven't been listening to the republican party, but they are being pretty explicit in their hatred of immigrants and the non-straights. the signaling is pretty clear on women and non-whites but slightly less overt. the larger picture is a real solid disdain for the poors and those without power. when jared kushner pushed to let covid go unfettered because it was hitting blue states hard and thus benefited them, that's a real "fuck you and die" moment. the right doesn't get to claim moral superiority, no on voting republican in the last 10 years gets a fucking pass: republicans hate american representative democracy because it empowers those classes and groups they deem "lesser".

I don't know about anyone else, but it's real fucking clear to me that the republican party is very complicit in wanting me and people I love dead, because we're different and don't fucking count, and certainly don't have enough money to get them to pretend otherwise.

I am shocked that the video featured for this article shows the body of Thomas Matthew Crooks laying on the roof after the Secret Service took him out.

There is another video further down in the article of people spotting him on the roof and shouting "he has a gun". Seconds later gun shots ring out.

It sounds like law enforcement was on to him and knew his location. Sadly, seconds to late to stop the shots. But if they didn't know where he was initially, things could have been a whole lot worse.

A $15 donation when he was 17. Sure it's unclear now, but he registered as a Republican at 18 and has stayed one since. Lots still needs to come out, but a few dollar donation to a voter turnout pac doesn't seem like much.

Yeah both sides want each other dead and or don’t care if the other is dead.
