Political Discussion

When I was in college, quite a few of us registered Republican to screw with their primaries.
When I was 18 I was a Libertarian (I voted for Harry Brown in 2000) by the time I was 20 I was a bleeding heart liberal and would vote for John Kerry in 2004 election. Many people’s political ideology shifts a great deal as a young adult.

I’m not saying anything other than being registered Republican doesn’t mean a whole lot especially for a twenty year old.

Yeah both sides want each other dead and or don’t care if the other is dead.

My statement holds true.
People have been shooting politicians since there have been guns. While I don’t want anyone to die from a deranged assassin’s bullet, I am also not gonna mourn the loss of a hypocritical wannabe tyrant.

Keep your dumb asses in the UK we have enough over here already, thanks.

My father is already saying that it's fake news that a 20 year old white male who was a registered republican was the shooter. And that it is a BS narrative made up by the liberal media.
Good to have a pulse on the Qanon/MAGA.

I would just start sending your dad screenshots of all the whacked out shit he’s been completely wrong about over the past decade. See if you can make his head explode trying to twist it all to support his current narrative of reality.

Would never work. Everything he's been wrong about, if I send him the story / facts he would just write it off as "fake news" and "liberal bullshit".

Did you show him that the so called antifa shooter was in Italy and is a sports journalist there? That dude got woken up on the night with his notifications blowing up...in Rome. Still alive.

I know it's not going to make a difference, but jumping on these troll Internet posts is such a sad state of late capitalism.

I did not see that. Is that the Mark Violets guy my father was telling me about last night as the named suspect?

nah, hard pass on the "both sides are like this" nonsense.

There's no policy push on the left for things that straight up kill republicans or conservatives. The republican party's posturing -- and this has steadily ramped up since the religious right started to take influence but gotten really extreme in say the last twenty or thirty years -- has barbed wire river deathtraps. That's not "let's stop illegal acts", that's "let's kill anyone coming through". All the anti-LGBT and Women's reproductive health legislation has demonstrable, tracked numbers that show republican anti-choice laws have negative effects beyond just abortion. The american right has long, long had a rich history of disregard for the safety of the common man, especially if there's a buck to be made.

I can't speak for anyone else and I certainly don't regard my thoughts on this to be indicative of the left or liberals in general but at least until covid, I didn't really think the right was trying to kill anyone not on their side. once covid started rolling through and it was a simple matter of "follow the science, let's minimize deaths and work to keep each other safe-ish" and the republican party and donald trump personally took a hard right into actively hindering safety plans and actively stopping safety programs, as well as passively just letting deaths happen because eh fuck the blue states, that for me was a sea change.
