Record Store Day 2022

My store was able to get the haim. I am debating on this right now, but it's not directly on my list. I think this is going to be a chaotic as the Pearl Jam unplugged.

It was one of the few I never physically saw a copy of - it doesn't seem the like the re-sale went absurdly high but it's still selling at like 4-5x retail I think, and that was just a one song feature. If anything is giving me that PJ-Unplugged feeling it's this one, I agree.

Sounds like most stores got 20 copies or less.

Toad said they got 4. If 20 is the standardish it may not be terrible, if it's 4? Oh boy. I'll just turn off Reddit for a week or so.

It’s a good thing I quit Twitter so I don’t need to see the nonsense! I’ll make a decision on the day, but it was mainly the price that turned me off for that 7” not the songs themselves.

Agreed. Sadly it is seeming like $15 MSRP for a 7" is becoming more and more...normal. Blah.

Anybody think Commander Venus is going to be insanely hard to come by? I have the original, but I am Tim Kasher completist so I definitely want to pick it up.
I don’t think it will hang around for too long but I also don’t think it will be too hard to come by over RSD weekend if you’re looking for it. It’s 2500 and since it’s a Craft RSD First title, I assume there will be a black pressing will follow shortly after.

They do seem to get a TON of stock compared to the stores I have nearby. They're a leftovers last resort for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Wow, I didn’t know that they flipped on EBay! I have gone there late in the day / next day to pick through leftovers but they are definitely not my go to store. It worked out to my advantage the year when Pearl Jam Unplugged came out, I was limited to one copy at my store, went to Spin Me Round after that, and since the line was gone, I was allowed to buy as many copies as I wanted. Picked up an additional 4 copies for friends who had gotten shut out. Was talking to the owner of PREX one day and even he didn’t understand how they get so much in.

They flipped back in 2020. I haven't bothered keeping up with them since. When RSD sees that sort of thing, I'm sure they shut it down quick.

For real, his videos have been hugely beneficial and interesting, especially since he probably is taking a loss on each of them given it has to be an opened product (though moving that product down the line probably isn't going to be that hard)
Taking a loss? I’m pretty sure he can just list open records at the same price as sealed ones, and that people will buy them.

Right! He’s not making these videos out of the kindness of his heart. They are a promotional tool and if anything, he could hold on to the opened copies until they sell out of sealed copies and then sell them for retail (if not more).

I don't like how he pulled the records out of the sleeve cause it's gonna have fingerprints on the edge, but if that was all there was I'd buy it cause I don't care if it's open. I wouldn't be surprised if these are what he's keeping either.

I watched one of his videos on that massive collection he bought and I guess he was live streaming as he made the video because the camera ladyyy kept mentioning how people were getting upset at how he was handling some of the pretty valuable records over and over and he started going overboard with being careful making sure to be sufferably obvious with his humorous efforts that kind of just failed.. He has always given off some major Comic Book man from the Simpsons vibes.

He also mentions he mostly only opens the popular ones he's interested in meaning he probably just keeps them like you said (if they sound good ofc, if not that shit's getting flipped for a profit).

Saying all that I still appreciate the vids as they help a bit but yeah, this isn't being done out of the kindness of his heart from what i've seen and heard about the guy. TBF though it's kind of nostalgic in a way as he reminds me of the typical sports card dealer or shady esque small record shop owners of the late 90's early 2000's just looking to make that $$$ which is honestly fine but it def. makes me respect the hell out of the great indie record stores that much more.

I'm sure many Record Stores do it if we're being honest but most are just smart enough to at least use a different faux account or have someone they know use there account to sell them at marked up prices as im sure RSD isn't going to go that deep with there investigation of things

Glad I wasn't the only one feeling that way, thought maybe I was the Comic Book Guy in the scenario 😂

I don’t have any fondness for the man, but the last time he did this three of the four he did videos on are still readily available at retail or less. Same for the one before, if he’s able to sell those copies at full price…we’ll that’s on his customers at that point, I’m not saying it’s pure altruism at all but other channels aren’t exactly ripping open their copies to give a similar view and given how much of RSD relies on people going in blind on so much of it, every little bit is nice,

There was a lot of...meh released last RSD. So much still available for cheap. Except at my local where it's all still above retail, lol
