Sutherland Club House

Haven't done a ton of listening, maybe ten hours in all, but the 20/20 is an appreciable jump from the Insight--the dual mono design is audible clear as day. On the fence about what I'm going to do with the Insight but the 20/20 is here to stay.

EDIT: Just realized I rhymed those sentences. I am a poet.
Gotta get you in line with some iambic pentameter

You know what they say about hindsight.

I kind of wish I'd heard the Insight first so that I could appreciate the 20/20 jump, but since I got mine for less than an Insight I have zero regrets.

Insight is a totally respectable phono stage and I'd have been content with it had I not heard the 20/20, but the design philosophy is audible and it's not some bullshit "I can hear more air!" that you see in audiophile reviews--it's akin to what I'd imagine mono blocks would do to a system. Just totally isolates the sound to a "left" and "right" (in a good way) and cleans up all the mess in the middle.

Swapped out the 2M Bronze and swapped in the OC9XEN and changed gain in preparation for my Technics headshell to arrive so I can play the XML. First time using an MC on the 20/20. Pretty wild how good the sound still is with the "lesser" stylus profile. Really curious to see what the XML will be like in a few days.

That said, it's very possible I may be moving it along in the near future; I absolutely adore the 20/20, but the Waxwing's instant per-cartridge presets are just too damn convenient for my weird multi-tonearm, multi-cartridge type life.

If you've been wanting to try dual mono, keep your eyes peeled.

Damnit I'd be so interested in one of these if they existed in Europe!

i've almost gotten a waxwing (or puffin) a bunch of times. there have been some for good deals over at hoffman classifieds in the past 6 months or so. but i really like my insight and 20/20 and don't cart swap.

It’s genuinely a very awesome little thing, but it definitely gives me a little twinge of ‘aaaaa, digital’

not in terms of the sound, which is excellent, but just…the idea.
