Television

Started Shining Girls on Apple TV. Two episodes in. I am definitely interested in whatever the hell this story is. But it’s so purposefully disorienting that I can’t tell if it’s actually good or not. Either it all slowly comes together and sticks the landing, or it’s just kind of a mess. Hard to say at this point.

New episode of Better Call Saul was fantastic. And directed by Rhea Seehorn! Love to see it. I think she did a great job. Also why isn’t she more of a star? God every time I watch this show I am just so engaged in her performance.

Still need to catch up on so many other things…

Currently watching Better Call Saul, Barry, Ozark, and We Own This City. It’s tough to keep all the drug dealers and anti-hero’s straight.

I watched the first episode. Not sold, but will continue because of Elizabeth Moss. But it feels like another occult/mystical/timetravelling serial killer story but with good actors.

"That awful woman with the ponytail?" That was hilarious.

So I'm caught up Saul now, and I loved both of the last two episodes.

What an awful position Nacho ended up in. Just no way out of that. I thought it was done so well...him heading to his own execution with a plan for a quicker death. It was compelling, dark and sad all at once.

The recent episode got back to some of the humor this show can give us with the whole 'Saul as Howard' scene.

And I have to continue to wonder what happens with Kim and Saul. I have a bad feeling she doesn't live. There was a scene where Mike said to Gus about Lalo being alive "Well then where is he?" and the next shot cut to Kim. I immediately considered this foreshadowing, but hope I'm wrong.

what happens with Kim and Saul.
I have heard some fun fan theory’s. I think there will be tragedy (which will result in Jimmy finally completely transforming into Saul Goodman). Though the wishful thinking theory that Kim is really Saul’s “silent partner” and just not shown throughout Breaking Bad, would be interesting but also based on how BB and BCS are constructed this doesn’t seem very likely sadly.

Similar to how
Hank's death
caused Walt's reclusion, followed by his descent into madness, I do think you're right that in order to get Jimmy to Saul's Breaking Bad level, a tragedy of this magnitude must occur. There'd have to be an incredibly clever way of them explaining how she isn't even mentioned a wink in BB to prevent her death from occurring.

Yeah I have felt it’s gonna be a tragic ending, but I want so badly for that not to be true. I just don’t see how it couldn’t be true.

Man, Ozarks. It was always kind of a poor man’s Breaking Bad, always a bit messy and left a lot loose ends that really didn’t lead anywhere but that ending…WOOF!

One reviewer described the last few seasons of Ozarks as characters shitting the bed then talking on the phone to clean it up. All while shitting in the bed again.
That feels apt. There were points during the shows run that made for very compelling television and the cast was impeccable but man they missed mark about as often as they hit it.

I get why Outer Range isn't getting as much praise as I think it deserves. It nearly goes off the rails toward the end and I guessed the major plot points by episode two. But Josh Brolin is fantastic and overall it's the exact kinda weird that I always want. Between this and From, I've been happy with the weirdness lately.
