The Blue Note Thread

I was curious if that could be applied to the Lee Morgan box. That could be a worthy consideration for someone who’s gonna buy most/all anyway.
It can’t (or at least I highly doubt it). BN review is a different store front as far as I know. I’ve tried to use BN coupons for them in the past with no luck

Edit: it seems like maybe they have since moved it to the BN storefront but I’d bet that’s one of the exceptions

I think if you want all the titles or are a completionist, the discount on the year long sub is close enough to the 30% off that you wouldn’t be upset about it plus can buy the 4 exclusives. I’m just not sure how many completionists are left.
all this easily available, perfect condition and remastered amazing sound quality jazz is getting boring...there must be something else I can collect that no one knows about...

So it’s not about the music then? 🤪

Gotta start collecting hot stampers!!

im only half kidding...its just too much product and its all too annoyingly socialized..and for me the juice isn't the music, I have more vinyl than I can ever listen to including 100s of blue note sides and I have Spotify where a robot farts out a killer weekly playlist of music that most times I like and would never had heard of...

so for me...its the treasure hunt, its digging, its knowing things that took effort and years to learn, its finding interesting things in the wild...record collecting used to be record hunting, record learning and record risking, and now its just discog searches....because everyone knows everything all the time and its fucking boring.

its great to have all this cool stuff available in perfect sound, etc, etc, yada yada...I guess the real upside is that I might get actual money for my collection when I sell it...probably not...

I like the hunt as well. But all these in great quality for an affordable price (on sale) is also nice.

I’d actually wager that many people’s collections will go down in price with quality reissues of lots of stuff coming out. Have already noticed that many of my BNs have gone down in price as soon as reissues come out. Doesn’t really matter to me. Many people have been saying it’s been much harder to sell stuff lately.

There is a glut of narrow band style jazz in the market. Too many reissues. Very few sell out anymore and stores have excess stock.

OG's go down in price now because of not just the over-production, but the fact that really mint OG's are actually quite rare and to most buyers aren't worth the hassle.

I've also noticed that OGs have been largely easier to find on ebay for good prices lately because the reissues are flooding the market and making it not as easy to search for OGs. I've gotten quite a few OGs like Alice Coltrane lately for much much better prices than prior to the reissues.

I haven’t bought a reissue in months. Instead I’m searching for “black b” and “white b” or the black/blue UA Blue Notes, all RVG-stamped, copies of the reissues at “good” (by bloated standards of today) prices. I prefer the sound of those over the reissues. I’m actually picky about surface noise, so it can be tricky, but I look for VG+ copies where the seller makes comments that indicate it’ll be a clean or close to it version. I often communicate with the seller about sound quality.

I pay more than I’d pay for a reissue, but it’s not a lot more, and I get more of what I want. I’ve been successful and, when a seller overstates the situation in a material way, I don’t hesitate to return the item.

i have quite a lot of the black and white bs and agree they sound awesome. i haven't double-dipped on those vs the tone poets but i do like the tone poet sound on my systems overall.

I also like the TP/BNC sound. I think they sound amazing and are fantastic values when 20-30% off is available. I have plenty and will keep most of them as my only copy. I just prefer the sound of the older copies generally. A little livelier to me, less clinical.

And the market shift you mentioned bring them into the ballpark pricewise

ideally this makes prices go down on new releases or at least move them to discount quicker..and does illuminate why BN is trying to create a 1 to 1 relationship now...
