The Blue Note Thread

I quickly decided not to be a completionist when it comes to jazz, theres just too much out there. What I have done though is to select a musician and stream all their albums, compilations and singles. Its a great way to see musicians sound develop (although it can obviously take weeks to get through all that stuff). So far this year I have listened to John Coltrane (82 albums, 32 compilations - 232 hours worth on comps) and Alice Coltrane (19 albums) fully. Im almost through all of Miles Davis' stuff as well. Lee Morgan is likely to be next. Its really fun.
Yea...I recently got an Aries Mini for streaming and think I might get either a Tidal or Qobuz subscription at some point to switch some of my listening over to high-res streaming.

Welp Freedom Rider for VMP Classics this month is AAA cut from the original tapes....didn't want to resub but looks like I can go back to a 1 month plan for it if I want...
Was just about to share this, did not expect the AAA.....wow. Just looking though and I was able to swap out the essentials for the Roots, but not Freedom Rider, does this mean they have sold out of classics already? (im signed up to classics btw, just didnt fancy the essentials this month)

Listening to a Connoisseur versions of Grachan Moncur III's Some Other Stuff from the good Dr, and I gotta say it sounds very good. I'm not sure if it's analog sourced tho the hype sticker did say it was sourced from the analog tapes. Doubt it's AAA, but either way, it sounds very good. I'd grab more of these if they came up!

Had another King press land today and it has a label Im not familiar with at all. Does anyone know why it’s different than other King labels?

I was chatting to @MikeH and @Mr Moore on here a few days ago about a Herbie Hancock record I was waiting on. Well, it came today and not only is it the first mono pressing, but its also in fantastic shape! There's a couple of light surface marks which shouldn't be a problem at all, and scuffs to the top of the sleeve, but other than that it's in great shape! Super excited for this one!

Those old Blue Note pressings can play gorgeously with some battle scars. I’ve a couple first presses of Schizophrenia and one is littered with scratches. Like something you’d find in a dollar bin, but still plays like it’s a VG.

Also, congrats.
Awesome pick up

I've been there. Great little shop. Unfortunately I was there with my wife who thinks my collection is far too big as it is. I'm allowed to browse but not buy.
I was there with my girlfriend and luckily she was happy to sit in the armchair there and read while I browsed! We were waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant so there was a timer on how long I could be in there anyway haha.

Awesome! I just talked myself out of bidding on some OG blue notes that are marked as VG though so you may have pulled me back in...
