The Crate Digging & Bargain Bin Finds Thread

Had a pretty wild day at the flea market Saturday. Didn’t pay more than $4 a piece for any of these:
  1. Tracy Chapman S/T, VG+
  2. Tracy Chapman “Crossroads,” VG+
  3. OG Beastie Boys “License to Ill,” VG
  4. Beyoncé “Lemonade” Yellow, VG+
  5. Madonna “Like. A Prayer” VG+
  6. Bill Withers “Just As I Am” VG+
  7. Coltrane “Om” and “Kulu Se Mama” VG+
  8. Beatles “Revolver” Mono, VG
  9. Miles’ “Sketches of Spain” and “Someday My Prince..” Mono, VG 60s copies
along with a bunch more jazz albums - a few Wes Montgomery, Sade, King Curtis, Brick, MSFB, Kenny Burrell, and others.

Likely won’t have another day like that in a long time.

Awesome! I never know whether to celebrate or curse the intermittent reinforcement!!

I didn't get a $5 find on this one.
Not very common in the wild so I handed over $14.

The dynamics and mastering are really good and it cleaned up to play very clean.
I love finding the old classic rock but the old blues are even more fun when you come across a gem like BB.🎙️🎸

Nothing like the djdavek ice cream snags, but a success story here too.

We hit up the local Bull Moose on Friday before RSD because we had an hour to kill until the Nic Cage movie and not much else to do. I walked in to see they had their box of used vinyl...and a few people rummaging through it. I think it was a fairly nice trade-in that came in but it was a timing issue for sure. Shrugged my shoulders and let them at it, and came back when one was left to look through the boxes he wasn't. I think by the time I was a couple boxes in he had walked away with 20-25 LPs to check for condition. I rummaged through, saw some good but not quite me titles, and ended up grabbing an LP based mostly on the names on the cover for a fiver.

Man, what a fine listen this is. Absolute treat.

I was in Copenhagen for the first time since the pandemic last week and got time to check out a new record store for me, Ooh Aah Records. Quickly became one of my favourites. It's small but full of surprises. They had a couple of Prince bootlegs (including the Black Album) that I nearly picked up. But ended up with these two for £5 each. The African Brothers Band is the absolute highlight - not listed on Discogs until now, my 31st album by them, really fabulous. Took a punt on the Cee-Lo as seem to remember enjoying it and figured I could sell it for more than I paid if needs. V chatty, knowledgeable owner and I'll be back.

Nice! We've just booked a long weekend in Copenhagen for later on in the year. I will have to make a list of shops to check out.

To share my joy, here’s the ice cream shop’s latest IG post:

I can’t go tomorrow.

That's insane.

Is this a regular record store with record store prices? Or more like a thrift shop? If the latter, then I stand by my original statement. :D

It’s primarily an ice cream shop. Very small.

And there are records. A lot of them! Prices go from $1 (floor-level racks, crates on floor in front room) to high (on the wall; last Saturday someone bought an unpeeled third state VU&Nico for 150).

Green stickers are $7. Orange are $12 or as priced.

I have picked up $20 value records for $12 and even $7 there. $1 finds are amazing (all the Brubeck I got last week). Some are scratched and not worth $1 unless you need a sleeve or are decorating.

I would say lower than your typical “vinyl is coming back” record store pricing. He’s always fair to under priced. And he’s a super nice guy and collects himself.

I suspect he may be wealthy and doesn’t have to charge a lot. Or he’s using it to bring attention to the ice cream business. He has 2 stores, too. One in Media PA, Delaware County.

Ice cream and vinyl... just add bourbon and I'll never leave.^^

Bookstore I discovered around Chattanooga, TN.
Mckay's

Books, comics, musical instruments on the bottom floor.
Used vinyl, tapes and CDs on the 2nd floor.
Found some gems in there Pretenders, SRV, and some others that day.
