The February Record Spin Challenge - It's All Connected, Maaaannnnn

Day 15 Play a song or album that could be the theme song to an imaginary TV show whose soundtrack would also feature yesterday’s artistPXL_20230216_010329248.jpg
EL-P "Fantastic Damage" - This would be one hell of a futuristic dystopian drama if EL-P provided the theme! Add some CAN to the soundtrack and I'm even more down! Reminds me when EL-P was supposed to do the score for that new Blade Runner movie, what could have been! Side note, my wife loves the score to that movie, I probably would have loved it if EL-P did it!

Day 15. Play a song or album that could be the theme song to an imaginary TV show whose soundtrack would also feature yesterday’s artist.

Drugdealer - Hiding In Plain Sight

pretty much this entire albums feels like a collection of 70s sitcoms theme songs. It would also sit nicely alongside a Tonstartssbandht song on the show’s soundtrack without anyone batting an eye.

Day 16. Play an album that someone involved in yesterday’s pick worked on (a musician, producer, artist, mastering, whatever!).

Mac DeMarco - 2

Mac DeMarco received an engineering credit for a track that Drugdealers recorded at Mac’s home studio.

10. Play an album that influenced or was influenced by the artist of yesterday’s album.

Tracking my connections thus far: Howard Jones --> Drive~By Truckers --> Kraftwerk --> David Bowie --> Muppets --> Debbie Gibson --> Bob Dylan --> Mike Ness --> Os Mutantes
Going with a genre that influenced Os Mutantes, Tropicalia. Many of their influences can be found on this album.

Various Artists ~ Beleza Tropical

11. Play an album that does something very different with an instrument used on yesterday’s album.

The organ used on Lo Borges ~ Equatorial in the Beleza Tropical comp reminded me of this band, who took the use of organ in recordings to absurd heights.

Emerson Lake & Palmer ~ The Best of Emerson Lake & Palmer

12. Play an album that was not as popular as yesterday’s pick.

Emerson Lake and Palmer may have moved more units than this band, but I'd imagine these guys moved more butts out of seats and onto the dance floor.

Skankin' Pickle ~ The Green Album

13. Play something by an artist that would disagree with yesterday’s artist about something.

Skankin' Pickle intentionally kept their ticket prices low - up to $7 a show or so. I don't think the Stones have had ticket prices that cheap for 50 years.

The Rolling Stones ~ Some Girls

Fell behind for reasons, hope to catch up a little...

Day 12 - Root Boy Slim has a song called Band From Hell on the album I posted
Day 13 - Mike Ness says, well, maybe it's more like Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell

14. Play an album by a band or artist you would like to see open for yesterday’s at a concert.

Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World

Not only has YLT covered the Cure, but I think the fans of the Cure who like both their pop hooks and longer, louder songs would find YLT also do both very well in their own way.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You

A show with Yo La Tengo on its soundtrack is probably pretty cool, so we need an equally cool theme song to match, I'm gonna pick something upbeat. "Bunny Is A Rider" will do the trick!

My show is a dramedy about a group of session musicians a la The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and the challenges they face working with artists of varying style, personality and temperament. Since this is centered around a studio, anything goes on the soundtrack.

The theme song,..
