Amythyst Kiah – Wary + Strange

They were different labels, but this and Sunny War were both pre-ordered direct from their labels which is something I don't do very often at all - particularly for contemporary releases. In a perfect world, both LPs would also have been signed as well, but past me made a poor decision!

Destroyer "Streethawk: A Seduction"
(2001 Misra; 2010 Merge reissue)
I ordered Wire's Pink Flag from Audiopile in BC via Discogs. In the same order was this record. Massive Attack's Blue Lines was in that box too. In retrospect a pretty great order because each is a fabulous pressing on top of being excellent yet quite distinct musically.

Audiopile is awesome! Whenever I'm referencing my semi-local around here, they are the ones I'm talking about. Their weekly new release email is one of my favourite mailing list things I receive from any source with any regularity - great write-ups and exciting music - often new discoveries I've missed along the way. Their free shipping thresholds are pretty high, because Canada, but they also let you build up towards them if you want - they'll just hold it until you've ordered enough to reach the threshold. They introduced a blowout bin to their site last year and between their Black Friday and Boxing Day sales I definitely went a bit mad, but got some absolutely killer deals!

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

Ariel Rechtshaid produced a song on Caroline Polachek's new album, and he produced and engineered this VW album.

Mac DeMarco - 2

Mac DeMarco received an engineering credit for a track that Drugdealers recorded at Mac’s home studio.

Day 17. Play an album that uses the same color as yesterday’s pick somehow (cover, vinyl, lyrics).

David Bromberg - Demon In Disguise

Both covers are shot in black and white and feature the artists showing off a big goofy grin.

I got the Notwist record from a store overseas who ships worldwide much cheaper than a lot of domestic sellers. More recently, I bought this from a similar overseas store, also with cheaper shipping. This was one I had regretted not buying many years ago when it was available, so I jumped at it once it was repressed. It’s a devastating but beautiful listen

While back in Springfield, IL in September visiting the In-Laws I swung by some of the local record stores and picked up a few things besides the excellent David Bromberg record, I also grab this wonderful Mid 70s Southern Rock album.

Nice! I thought maybe I was the only ARA fan around these parts.

My closest local store is a place called Finders Keepers. It's a vintage clothing and used vinyl store. So while they don't have any new stock, there is always a nice rotation of new arrivals. They have a great balance of fairly priced used classic rock stuff and highly priced hard to find items. It's where I got my copy of Rain Dogs, and they current have a Beatles butcher cover, second state.

Both of these were under ten bucks and VG.
Day 17 - Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Day 18 - The Cars - S/T

Juvenile "400 Degreez" - same company as yesterday not exactly the same style of music! I haven't spun this fine motherfucker in a while, kind of forgot I had it, that happens a lot so I'm not surprised anymore!

19. Play an album with similar themes to yesterday’s album.

Tom Waits "Nighthawks At The Diner"
(1975 Asylum; 2018 reissue)
I first thought of this record because it shares the "hawk" name with "Streethawk: A Seduction", which I played yesterday. But I realized the themes are also similar. Both are introspective and touch on themes of trying to find oneself in the rough world of the city.

Ghostface Killah featuring Raekwon and Cappadonna IRONMAN - bragging and boasting and also putting your struggle into words, different parts of the country, different times, different lives and somehow everyone has a story that seems familiar. This is also just a banger and I wanted to listen to it today!

Day 20 Play anything from a different continent than yesterday’s spin

Fireballs "Dots" - So I took me a trip to Africa! A friend introduced me to Zamrock a few years back and I've been on the lookout for more ever since! Had to pull the trigger on the Anthology even if there was a good chance the titles would eventually appear separately down the road, or they'd reissue the boxset! Haven't spun this one in a while so this was a good excuse!
