The NBA Thread

I mean, it sounds like its the Clippers, Mavs or Lakers.

He could go to the Clippers and I'd still have 0 fear of them. Mavs-- depends what they are giving up and then he'd help ensure Luka leaves long term. Maybe within a season 😂

So again, I just hope he doesn't wind up w the Lakers. I trust Lebron to keep in line and that team would be scary.
The Mavs are so mediocre, and they really need to upgrade around Luka, but I wouldn’t want Kyrie anywhere near Luka if I were running the Mavs.

*edit: truthfully, I don’t think Kyrie should be allowed around very many people in general ha

How does this help the Mavs?! Luka will be gone at the end of his contract.
If Luka is willing to give up a ton of money, sure. He's already signed through 2027 and his next contract Dallas will likely be able to pay him a lot more than anyone else.

I'm not sure I think this makes the Mavs much better but I do get going for it with stars. Though I think it's fairly likely kyrie is gone after this year. And it's not exactly a kawhi raptors situation where they are one player away.

Nets are gonna be fun. My cousin will be happy, he can be a fan again. And loves Spencer because he became a fan during that era.

Meanwhile, Mavs traded two of their best role players for a guy who is gonna cause Luka to hit eject in a year. Dude wants to win. Anyone who has followed him and believed in him since he was a teen in Europe knows his competitive fire is elite.

Couldn't have worked out better as a Nuggets fan.

Now, I gotta listen to all the King James people on NBA Twitter try to push him as GOAT. It’s gonna be an annoying week.

I think Lebron is the corniest superstar of any major sport during the past 20 years, and he completely lost me when during the Morey / Hong Kong BS (and because Lakers).

But this moment was gonna come. So I'm just happy it just came in a loss to a small market.

Also, Jordon's Bulls would have lost 2 out of every 3 series against the KD Warriors too. But he also wouldn't have felt the need to form a super team in Miami so...

Comparing teams from different eras is a fools errand. Everyone always goes forward instead of backward, you put Golden State back in the 90s and take away the analytics and add the physicality that is missing from todays game and who knows what would’ve happened. Conversely bring a Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman Bulls team forward where they didn’t get the shit kicked out of them constantly and had really developed a 3 point shot and that team is probably closer to a Curry, Klay and Draymond GS teams that you’d expect.

But yeah, if the 96 bulls team as constituted played their exact type of ball that they played in 1996 against the 2017 Warriors team and they played the same style that they played in 2017. They would have buried The Bulls.

Agree 110%. The best comparison point is relative to the rest of the league at the time and in the context it occurred. Having watched MJ and LeBron as they happened, it really isn’t a competition as to who at their ultimate best was most dominant. LeBron’s career stats are more impressive for sure due to his longevity, which he deserves a lot of credit for.

FWIW, my Top 5 of all time is 1.) MJ, 2.) Bill Russell, 3) LeBron, 4) Kareem, 5) Larry Bird

I agree that comparing eras is really difficult statistically because the games shifts so rapidly. But I do think that its possible to look a players place within the league they played in and contrast it with the same dynamic for another player.

For example, I think it's inarguable that the league is more talented than ever and that it's harder to play D than ever. More because of the evolution of the three than things like handchecking (even if that also plays a role).

As for my top 5, I can only speak to players I actually watched... which started at the tail end of Barkley / Jordan and VERY beginning of Shaq. 93' Suns are the first basketball I remember watching. The next year were the Deke Nuggets upsetting the Sonics. After which I bought NBA Jam and became a fan for life.

I'll think on it. But I'll just add that as time passes, I have more respect for Kobe than Lebron when it comes to them as players AND their legacies. Which is wild, cause I hate ISO ball so Lebron should appeal to me. And I hate the Lakers (but did live in LA from 05-21).

Like my 3 fav teams of all-time are these Nuggets, the Nash Suns and the Webber / Divac Kings.

Followed by the Chauncey/ Melo Nuggets and Penny / Shaq Magic.

And my five *favorite* players are 1) Jokic 2) Nash 3) Chauncey 4) Penny 5) Dirk
