The NBA Thread

Going to go on a "fuck NBA blackouts" rant because it's pretty clear they don't want people where I live to watch the Sixers. I live in Central PA and have YouTube TV. I get NBC Sports Philly and every other sport plays fine but for some weird reason 76ers games are blacked out. Literally the only way I could get them to play is through the NBC Sports Ap (Not even MyTeams worked, they were still blacked out). Now they updated the NBC Sports app and guess what, Sixers games are blacked out now.

Sooo... I went to my old method and subscribed to NBA League Pass and ExpressVPN. However, now League Pass doesn't work through a VPN. And because I'm technically in the Sixers market the games are obviously blacked out on League Pass. What kind of ass backwards league considers you in a team's market but blacks out games on your RSN? Literally my only solution is to have Xfinity Cable and no way I'm going back to that.

Ok. Rant over. Blackouts are still bullshit though.

Agreed - I was just complaining about this to my wife last night. She doesn’t care as much about this issue as I do, I learned.

My wife only cares because I was in a foul mood when I figured this all out right as the Sixers game was supposed to start last night. At least the next 2 games are nationally televised.

I read of some kind of workaround to the League Pass VPN issue so I'll give that a try next time it's a regionally broadcast game.

With RSN's slowly dying you would think that streaming is going to be one of the only options to watch local teams soon.

I don't understand why you are blacked out if you have the RSN that carries them?

Yeah, me neither. It's been that way ever since I got You Tube TV (I also checked on my neighbor's Hulu Live TV and they're blacked out on there too). Phillies and Flyers games play perfectly fine.

I'm guessing there's some BS reason and I'm sure Comcast is involved in it.

Comcast is the fucking worst.

Are you in an area that also gets Baltimore/DC channels? I would have figured it was just Xfinity being screwy on account of owning NBC but if you get the flyers fine I'm not sure what the issue would be. None of the games last week were on the Xfinity exclusive NBCSP+ that I forget exists until there's a game on there that's not just a simultaneous gambling broadcast.

Yes. I get NBC Sports Philly and NBC Sports Washington. Wizards games are not blacked out.

Strange. If I were in your position I would spend a small amount of time emailing YouTube TV and immediately start sailing the high seas on blackouts.
My neighbor has Hulu TV and I had him see if he could watch last night's game and it was blacked out for him too. So I'm sure it's some BS Comcast agreement about not carrying Sixers games on streaming.

When “Keeping It Real” goes wrong…in Tacoma.

I guess Kemp got into a fight at the Tacoma Mall which lead to him and his entourage being involved in a drive-by shooting.

I need to share NBA gossip in a space I'm confident won't cause it to go viral (aka reddit or Nuggets communities).

I heard from a source I trust (because he was about a month ahead of the curve on the Bones drama and has no reason to lie) that Jokic was beyond livid with the Perk "racism" nonsense. To the point where he almost packed up his bags and went back to Serbia.

Conversations surrounding race take on a different meaning when you grew up in a war torn country actively engaging in ethnic cleansing.

I 100% believe he has actively been tanking his MVP case. Anyone who watches the team regularly can tell his effort has been at about 60% for weeks (outside of the Bucks game). The question is whether the situation has effected team chemistry and / or whether the team has been coasting and will turn the effort level back up.

I have no idea. But I'm so sick on ESPN's toxic "analysis". Sports media and the way the NBA markets itself is completely fucking broken.

Congrats to Philly fans btw. Embid's MVP will be well deserved.

I think the MVP is going to Giannis.
