What’s the difference between the 1200/1300G, the magnesium tonearm?
The 1300G does have an aluminum tonearm tube vs. magnesium on the 1200G. It seems to have the ΔΣ-Drive from the 1200GR2 and the three-layer platter from the 1200G.

I think it has the new delta sigma power source and motor control from the GR2 but it actually has the upgraded motor from the G and SP10R.

The savings I think are in the aluminium arm tube, pulling off the DJ bits and there being less weight and fancy materials in the plinth.

After reading the Stereophile reviews in the Jan 2025 issue of the Technics SL-1300G and the Clearaudio Signature, they both seem to be fabulous tables.

I’d probably have purchased the 1300G instead of my Luxman PD-151 Mk2 had it been available at the time I purchased. The tonearm bearing on the 1300G is the same one used on the 1200G and the SL-1000R, with different lengths and armtube materials.
I’ve now read both glowing reviews, but I’m wondering if Stereophile ever writes anything negative. His Clearaudio setup for stereo records was identical to my setup. I’m loving the Clearaudio and feel particularly good about it bc mine was supposedly pre-owned and got it for 22% off MSRP. (I say supposedly bc it seemed new to me or as close to new as I could imagine a pre-owned table to be)

Most reviewers don’t bother with things that aren’t going to get a decent review these days. It isn’t worth the drama with the companies or followers being negative in return.

Yeah I think Ed said something similar on here once. With only a limited amount of review slots and so much brilliant gear at every price point why deliberately pick something that either doesn’t interest you or that you don’t think will be any good.

Reviewers tend to be enthusiasts like us too and don’t want to spend a month or two with a piece of equipment they don’t like.

When I reviewed comics back in the day, I got shit from a creator for a good review because I had mentioned that the series (which was told through six one shot stories set in different timelines) felt a little disjointed.

How dare you express an opinion!

I have been seeing many reviewers catching hell lately because their reviews are all positive so everyone assumes they are paid off. I'm sure some of them are taking 'payment' of one form or another, but I maintain that most gear over say $500 USD is pretty good. Over $1500 you're getting into diminishing returns territory and most of the stuff we see frequently reviewed at these price points is very good.

I also view the lack of reviews for a product or vendor as a warning flag. Either reviewers didn't like it and declined to review it or the vendor isn't willing to subject their products to scrutiny. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a product that wasn't widely reviewed, but I'll probably scrutinize it a little harder before hitting the purchase button.
