The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

I bought a different turntable base from the same vendor to match my new speakers. It was used and came with sorbothane feet. Love the darker color and the ability to customize my table. Looks do matter for me at least.

This looks great. I rarely am impressed by features that are purely for aesthetics, but this really looks fantastic. I assume it doesn't interfere with cable runs?

No, they're on different kallaxes that are all filled with records. No issues at all with feedback or footsteps.
This is very smart and simply isolation. Great set up.

OK...looking for some input.

This year it is time to upgrade the temporary AT-LP120XUSB. I really got his to be a second to transfer albums, singles and what not to digital if and when. It is not a bad little turntable but it it time.

Back in the day used to have (2) Technics, an SL1800 and another belt drive that i do not remember. The 1800 had a bad speed control when i brought it back out form hibernation and the belt...got rid of that many moons back. Always the intention of upgradeng in this line.

Right now looking at the 1500, 1200GR2 and the 1300C
The 1500 is a great budget price and love the look
The 1200GR i could swing.
The 1300C i would love but is more than i would like to spend on this unit.

OK....what i have is not a 30k plus system but for me, is likely going to be what i have for a very long time as overall i am happy with it.
Just upgraded last year to the Hegel 190V
Have a slim line Marantz to power Kitchen and outdoors that matter none into this decision.
Rotel Tribute
Run (2) Lokius - one for the phono and one for the CD, not used often but when needed.
Monitor Silvers with matching Sub
Audeze MM500 phones which is where 80% of my listening is done.
I am running MM cartridges (right now high end AT) and likely to stay there for now but could be the one thing i upgrade in a few years (MM).
Also no real thoughts of streaming at this point in time...i prefer throwing on a CD...but this too is a possible future change and would be a moderately priced unit (1-2lk)

So.....I guess what i am looking for are thoughts. Willi I be disappointed in going 1500 instead of 1200GR?...will the 1500 be a significant enmough upgrade from the AT-LP.?......would i see a significant upgrade then going to the 1300 instead of the 1200GR....and is that really worth the extra 1K plus just becaouse i love the look of it more so than the 1200GR ( ireally do hate the slider).

Little thing....your preference?....black or silver...just curious.

I know ultimately it is a me decision, but any feedback is really welcome...i can not watch another you tube video or review, lol.

I have a 1200GR, it's the best value proposition of the three there, especially if you can find a closeout model from the first gen. All will be good but GR would handle just about anything you can throw at it and leave money for moves elsewhere. The only reason I will get rid of my GR is if I upgrade to a G.

I have a GR and agree with this. I’d need to go to the $4-5k tables before I’d think about upgrading and it has some nice flexibility to it

All three will be a significant upgrade on your existing table and the top two will be an upgrade from the one below it. The differences between each of the levels of table should manifest themselves in both sound quality and usability. Which one you get should depend on how much you are comfortable with spending.

Be the first here to get the 1300 and tell us all about it👍

If politics were different and its impact to my employment more certain I’d probably make this move. The smart thing for me to do right now is hold onto my cash until the dust settles.
I hear ya.
I've been saving my whole life and ready to start letting loose of some of it.
I don't know if markets keep going but nothing wrong with skimming now.

Good luck with your decision.

@Lek - I agree that a GR is the best value of the lineup. In your case, I’d recommend looking for a used one to shave off some dollars. Some people eventually move from the GR to the G, and now perhaps to the 1300. Look out for demo units from established retailers, too.

@Lek just wanted to chime in and say the 1st gen of GR's tonearm lift was so bad that I returned it, it just totally affected the usability of the table for me. A quick Google yielded I wasn't the only person experiencing the issue.

I know it seems like a small thing, perhaps it won't matter to you, but I haven't heard anything negative about that in the MK2 version.
