Upcoming/Recent Shows

So far I grabbed Ben Folds and Nick Cave tix...probably more to come.
Love it! Get on those others. Really nothing better than live music other than golfing :) We've got tickets for the MJ show in PDX and looking forward to that. That whole list you put up is fantastic. I'm debating on the Bob Mould, I've seen him so many times solo. One of the loudest shows ever! I think he has Craig Finn with him here.

Bob Mould is playing a small, really cool venue in Detroit, so I might do that one. Beth Gibbons falls on a day that I'm just getting back in town from a golf trip, so it's kind of funny you mentioned golf and music together.

First four shows of the year were on four consecutive nights and I'm exhausted. I'm clearly not built for this anymore, hahah.

Pretty special in-studio this evening with Tracey Thomas. Tracey was the lead singer of late 70's/early 80's underground favorite "Akron Sound" band Unit 5. Their sole album "Scared of the Dark" on Clone Records is still a cult favorite in the area. It's definitely one of my favorites since moving to the area and learning more about this area's musical history. It's not available on any of the streamers, but it is on YouTube.

Tracey was joined on stage by 3 members of The Shootouts, who I know have a few fans on this here site. Bill Watson from The Numbers Band (another forum favorite) was on upright bass. Tracey has a new album out and a new memoir coming out the beginning of next month, which she was promoting tonight.

I had the Unit 5 record on order from Discogs from 2 weeks ago, hoping to have it for tonight, but the weather currently has it stuck in Lexington, KY. BUT, Tracey had original, sealed copies from 1981 there for sale, which is incredible to think about! I, of course, gobbled that up, along with a copy of the new record.

Highly recommend that Unit 5 record for fans of that era of new wave and punk music.

After attending the above "preview" I just knew that I had to make it to the official release show for Tracey Thomas' new album and memoir.

What a special, special night. The Shootouts (Trio) opened the show and then the same cast of characters backed Tracey for her set. They started by playing her new record in full, and then finished by playing the hits plus a few select covers. Tracey sounded incredible and the sold out crowd of 300+ people were enamored with her every note. She is a grandmother of punk rock for a reason, and it was great to see her visibly feel so appreciated. The "who's who" of the Akron Sound were there. 3 members of Unit 5, Bob Kidney from The Numbers Band, Nick from The Bizarros, The Crones, Marc Lee Shannon from the Michael Stanley Band. What a celebration. Feel extremely blessed and grateful to have been in the room.

Someone literally has a seizure in the crowd, light show was very flashy

I'm not going to get a seizure, but the strobes do bother me too much. That is one aspect of live shows that I do not like. I try to remember to bring sunglasses, which helps a little. Otherwise I just close my eyes and look down during those moments.

Richard Blade / ABC / Howard Jones at the Masonic, San Francisco

This was such a fun show! Richard Blade opened the show by talking about the history of new wave music while playing some key tracks. Then we got a full hour plus set from both ABC then Howard Jones. Both Martin Fry and Howard were in fine voice and the packed crowd ate it up.
