Upcoming/Recent Shows

seen a few shows since my last post... but these were the big ones for me this year. I just adore this band more than any other band in my life, and I've adored many bands.

only the home turf shows for me this year, I'm jealous of all you state hoppers out there catching multiple shows in multiple cities. 5 shows in and this tour has already been next level... love that they have a pro set-up streaming the whole tour free on YouTube too, lets everyone be part of the whole tour even if you can't be there live!

Sometimes 53 year old me still thinks I’m 23.

Crazy run of 5 shows in 7 days in 3 geographically disjoint places….yep, 23 year old me wasn’t smart either.

8/14/24 Kings of Leon - Austin TX
8/15/24 Spoon/Revivalists - Red Rocks CO
8/17/24 Tyler Childers - Folsom Field, Boulder CO
8/18/24 Foo Fighters - Seattle WA
8/20/24 Nathaniel Rateliff - Red Rocks CO

Glass Animals with Kevin Abstract last night for another Blossom show.

The crowd was NOT into Kevin Abstract, but I dug his energy. Never got to see BROCKHAMPTON live before they disbanded so was cool he played a few from that part of his catalog. Spent a lot of time in the crowd trying to get people going.

Glass Animals I had seen at Lollapalooza in '17 or '18 and they were pretty bad. I was hoping they'd have improved since then. Nope. Band was sloppy and the lead singer just straight up couldn't sing worth a damn. We left early.

The Doobie Brothers with Steve Winwood last night at Blossom.

My FIL saw Steve a while back and said he didn't get up from the piano so I was very happy when not only did he get up from the piano, he switched from piano to guitar, mandolin, and organ throughout the set. Played the hits. Thoroughly enjoyable.

My 2 year old is OBSESSED with The Doobie Brothers thanks to his grandpa. While we didn't bring him because he's still a little young for this venue, I got him a shirt to grow into. I'm a little burned out of all Doobie Brothers thanks to my son, but the band sounds great and cool to see the man, the myth, the legend Michael McDonald.

Green Day in Cincinnati was a lot of fun. 2 full albums plus several more pretty much nonstop for 2 hours.

We were on the 3rd base side just a few rows up from the dugout. Saw the band hanging out in the dugout watch Smashing Pumpkins.

The Smashing pumpkins were really good, too. Their new guitarist is very energetic. Corgan wore the classic trenchcoat/robe thing.

Rancid was fun and of course sang Ruby SoHo

Glad to make it in time to see some of the Linda Lindas, though I heard the first few from outside the stadium as we were walking up.

Seen Most: Gillian Welch / Orchestra Baobab / The Charlatans
Most Surprising: Johnny Halliday at Champ de Mars was a lot of fun

I was at that My Bloody Valentine show, too! I recall them clearing the field of fans eager for the headliner, Tool. The Tool fans standing by me were so determined to keep their spots, but enraged by MBV's volume, that they spent the show flipping the band off.

First: Prince, Purple Rain tour

Last: Toad the Wet Sprocket

Worst: Car Seat Headrest (first two times I saw him was amazing, third was more like a bad lounge singer act)

Loudest: Mars Volta at ACL

Best: Coldplay at a tiny club, pre Rush of Blood to the Head or Paul McCartney's Last Pick at the 'Stick show

Seen Most: Toad the Wet Sprocket/Glen Phillips

Most Surprising: Taylor Swift (I knew it would be good but she still blew me away!)

Happy I saw: David Bowie or Tom Petty

Wish I saw: the Smiths or Oasis

Next: Stars (Set Yourself on Fire 20th Anniversary Tour)

First: Tool, Lateralus Tour (Tomahawk opening)

Last: Mountain Goats/New Pornographers (Last Peter Hughes show)

Worst: Venetian Snares (he was fine, but there were endless opening acts on a Tuesday night)

Loudest: My Bloody Valentine at Liberty State Park

Best: Godspeed You! Black Emperor (first tour after hiatus)

Seen Most: Los Campesinos!/Gogol Bordello

Most Surprising: Gotan Project

Happy I saw: Daft Punk (Alive 2007)

Wish I saw: The Cure

Next: Mitski (with Peter Hook and the Light the day after)
