Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Just got a notification that my comment that Vinyl Junkies was one of VMP's screw ups was taken down for "harassment and bullying". Don't see how one comment indicating it was a mistake associating with a guy who did what he did on the forums and then had just the previous day spammed a bunch of links to his own page so considered harassment so much as just stating a fact.

A lot of people will say this, but I was viewing it as a good possibility that they'd do reprints. I think everyone being vocal on here and elsewhere and raising a ruckus is to thank.

But, in the alternative, imagine if VMP started an anthology, had seriously screwed up the first package on the first record, and never done a reprint. Not only would they have they turned away what has to be 1,000 of their strongest subscribers, they also would have completely tarnished the Anthology reputation.

I'm holding out faith that they're going to get better at this. And despite the shitty Facebook group, turd of a podcast, and total lack of contests, the quality of these first two records is not terrible. It's not entirely a lost venture.

As they learn how to properly execute a project like this, though, VMP would do well to do something way less demanding and with less of a ravenous fan base. If we find out that #2 is Chess, that's going to be like waking up and deciding that because you can't play professional baseball, you'll be a professional football player instead.
I honestly did not think they would do a full reprint. Those raising a much needed stink surely helped. Their initial suggestion (directly from Cam I believe) was "Hey maybe we can find a digital scan of the back and liner notes and post it here on the facebook group." With the Don Was AMA coming up too, I'm sure they didn't want to deal with the flack of the wrong sleeve.

You even had a fairly large contingent of people over on the FB group saying that only the music mattered and they didn't care about the sleeve and called anybody who was rightfully annoyed about it elitist, or harassed them. As someone else pointed out, those people are now posting on facebook saying oh we knew they would make it right. VMP always comes through!

As for your last point, they are 100% going to do another label with a ravenous fan base. If it sticks to the current price point, they will have to in order to sell it out. I was only in on this one because I'm a big Blue Note fan and really wanted some of the albums they chose. They have been on my want list for quite some time but have been too expensive to pull the trigger on ones in good shape.

I love this line "Idk why everyone got so worked up. VMP has a fantastic track record when it comes to customer service, so this was pretty predictable that they’d handle this with a lot of grace." They must have been paying attention to recent developments.

Woah, I got #030, which is probably the lowest number I’ve every gotten of anything. o_O

Not to brag but I get numbers all over the place, for the box I got 20, for one of the recent exclusives I got 2, but other time, most of the time, I am toward the end of the pressing number, I really don't care though unless I number would line up with the release like getting an _11 for Stranger Things

I guess I have somehow missed all his posts, not complaining but I find it weird

Lots of the things he was responding to got deleted, so...
It was on the initial post Gabe made asking if the Dexter album was indeed AAA because the back cover said digital and asking why this was printed on the back. I responded immediately it was because VMP makes lots of mistakes. He posted underneath my comment and I replied that he was one of those mistakes.

That's because you didn't just talk about jazz. You're trying to change the game too much.

I reported him for his excessive use of the word "jazzbo".

What's funny is the people who complain about just being in it for the music are exactly the same demographic that flips its shit over red vinyl repressings of albums that everyone has.

Agreed, another big label is inevitable. I'm probably going to sign up for that too as much as I complain because it's still one of the most affordable ways to get pressing of things that would otherwise sit in my discogs wantlist for months/years.

As happy as I am with this resolution, I cant help thinking that it points to the possibility that they straight up lied at some point. It's been two days since they told us that Blue Note had no files or anything for the cover and that the production team had spent a considerable amount of effort trying to reproduce the art. Now, two days later they have a solution. So, if it took two days to find a solution to remake the original jacket, how much time had actually been spent on it originally? And I'm still curious as to who at Blue Note signed off on the CD artwork being printed, if anyone. These are answers we will never get, but it makes me wonder even further about the integrity of the company.

My absolute guess is that it was a complete miscommunication and laziness issue on VMP's part. They likely asked for the artwork, it went through the grapevine at Blue Note. Somebody looked up one of the most recent album art scans, sent over a CD one. VMP took this as okay this is the artwork we need to use as it was sent over by BN and don't want to bother and second-guess Blue Note so we'll just use this. This happens at a lot of companies I have worked at over the years. People are afraid to ask questions and just do as they are told and then people higher up aren't involved enough and don't care enough to actually look at everything.

Blue Note likely figured that VMP isn't total amateurs (their mistake) and signed off without really looking at everything. That would be my guess since I've seen something like that happen too many times.

Out for delivery! Hopefully they slipped in the new jacket before it left CO.
