Vinyl Me Please Classics

True. But that is just some guy writing that it should be considered one of the most important jazz records 40 years removed from the release. I don’t disagree. But in the grand scheme of jazz albums, it’s not nearly as important as the other albums mentioned. It’s a fantastic album, but Shape of Jazz To Come was instantly an important album and shifted the landscape of jazz for the next decade plus. Incredible Jazz Guitar set the benchmark for jazz guitar and all the imitators that followed. Jazz In Silhouette is an important album but didn’t shift the landscape of jazz or inspire legions of imitators.
But what is important is what does the Wikipedia entry say for both albums, since that seems to be where VMP does all their research.

We're talking VMP clues here though. If there is a quote on wikipedia that matches the language of the clue, that is a pretty strong indicator.

The new clues are out and I am going to guess Ornette's The Shape of Jazz to Come for November (1959, 6 tracks) and The Three Faces of Yusef Lateef for December (1960, 8 tracks).
i am kind down for the shape of jazz to come... but... you can buy the speakers corner for the same price.. or the ORG 2LP for 10 bucks more, both pressed at pallas and done by Kevin gray and bernie grundman respectively... maybe RKS has a good cut, maybe its the mono version which might be interesting, but i just am a little unsure given the price

I do think it may be the mono cut. I personally think the stereo version is a little better though.

Bloody hell, I only got Dinah Washington a few days back! Enjoy the Dizzy!
VMP has been killing the shipping game for me recently! Dizzy sounds great, particularly on the tracks with out the big band accompaniment. Those big dynamic swings from a bunch of horns screaming at once on the first couple tracks had me reaching for the volume knob ngl. It definitely sound's like it's an album from 1954... that being said, Dizzy's horn has a wonderful bite to it. Vinyl is dead quiet (was the case for The Game in RHH as well), this has probably been my overall quietest batch of VMP records in recent memory. Now that I have this one in hand, I'm not sure how often I'll spin this one but I'm happy to have it for when I feel the urge.

Very excited for mine to come, love the Manteca theme.

Though I admittedly can never listen to it without singing “Crab in my shoe mouth!” in my head.
