Vinyl Me Please Classics

I would hope it's mono. Speakers Corner has the stereo, mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at Pallas, for about $30.
even if it's mono, i'm out on this one. i don't really have much interest in buying mono and stereo versions of all these jazz albums. will be a good pickup for people who don't have it though.

jazz dispensary titles in swaps is more interesting IMO...i already got the ones I wanted with store credit and the $25 off deal but they are great.

No that it matters, but wasn't October supposed to be the 1983 album? I guess they just swapped the Oct / November titles?

Curious where this is pressed and whether it's Mono or Stereo.
did some digging...

The Shape of Jazz to Come, the bold 1959 magnum opus from Ornette Coleman, is the VMP Classics Record of the Month for October 2022. It's here on 180g black audiophile vinyl pressed at RTI with AAA lacquers cut from the original mono tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.

I'll probably grab the Melvin Sparks, are any of the other JD titles must-haves?

Melvin Sparks is cool. i really love the Idris Muhammed. But definitely try to give it a stream before buying. Not everybody's cup of tea. I haven't had a chance to listen to the Gary Bartz yet. Didn't get the fourth one.
Yeah, Sparks is the main one I'm targeting too. Guess I need to have a quick trigger!

I have an OG so I might actually be out (the first time for Classics!) but really pleased they went with this. When they said it was one of the most important jazz albums I was ready to kick up a fuss, but The Shape Of Jazz To Come really did change the way free-jazz was viewed.

1959 really was an incredible year for jazz, Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue, The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out, Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um, Art Blakey - Moanin', John Coltrane - Giant Steps (recorded), Chet Baker - S/T.........the list goes on! Heres a good doc about it:

I really think the stereo is the way to go on this one but I’m sure the mono will be great. Change of the Century is a better album though and would have been my pick for an Ornette Coleman album in the Classics track. Plus it’s never had an audiophile reissue if I’m not mistaken.

for those who were hoping for Sun Ra's Jazz in Silhouette (aka @avecigrec ) supposedly it’s getting a non-VMP reissue later this year!

“Expanded, OFFICIAL remastered edition should hit the markets later this year. Bottlenecks in manufacturing have delayed the release, for which production was finished over a year ago.”

So we’re getting vinyl reissues of Jazz in Silhouette, Universe in Blue and Futuristic Sounds all this year!

This is terribly exciting! Who us doing this one?

Jazz in Silhouette is so long overdue for a proper reissue. The Sun Ra album nearly ALL jazz heads can love!
