Vinyl Me Please Classics

For people who got Celia & Johnny -- Did your copy come in a regular shrink wrap and not the typical outer sleeve?

Yes, I think this is like what happened with Queen, they probably saved the jackets and tossed the “defective” LPs then reshrinked in a cheaper material to offset some of the loss.

IMO loose baggies are superior. For one they don’t pose any risk of warps and they’re just as easy to discard.

YES! The cheap resealable sleeves are such a waste. They fall apart as soon as you open them. Storf says they did a poll a while ago and people wanted the resealable sleeves. I didn't take part in that so not sure what happened, but I can't imagine anyone actually finding the cheap sleeves useful.
Right now I can only think of two preferences: either you don't care and you throw the sleeve away and use your own sleeve, or you would rather have the loose sleeves. If so, VMP needs to just change to the loose sleeves!

Wasn't there a poll right before they killed the forums where the vast majority didn't want them? I guess we were viewed as non-representative of the average customer.

Edit:sorry, to be clear I mean didn't want the resealable ones they use.

My preference is what Castleface does where they give you an open outer sleeve and even often pack the records outside of the jacket to avoid seam splits. Some people need to break a seal though.

I agree. I don’t hate them because it saves me from going and getting more sleeve but they invariably break at which point they piss me off. In general I dislike Japanese style sleeves and prefer the thicker mil European style ones. As for the appeal, IME the average casual younger record buyer doesn't use plastic outer sleeves, I've even had a friend throw them out on records I gave her... For those that know how to store records the VMP sleeves are lame, but I'd still take them over shrink to minimize warps.

Good point! I've considered replacing all the random loose bags in my collection with nice Sleeve City outers... just haven't invested the time/money to follow through yet.

The only time I don't like the resealable jackets is when the resealable part is on the FLAP instead of the back. I HATE THOSE!

I am in the camp that hates those outer sleeves with resealable flappy thing. It just gets attached to stuff too often and the sleeves rip fairly easily. I've invested in the Sleeve City outers (ultimate?) and am a big fan. :)

Does anyone have a surplus art blakey classics booklet to share. Mine did not have one and vmp cant sent Booklets by themselves and are out of records

Hint #1 for R&HH was: "RHH is one of the most important rap albums of all time...maybe THE most important rap album of all time."

I don't know about Licensed to Ill being THE most important, but it's up there.

Run DMC Raising Hell came out in 1986 as well and a strong case can be made for it being one of the most important rap records of all time! Plus it doesn't mess with the BB King pick!

Edit: has a song called Dumb Girl on it as well
