Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Shows you how much VMP I read.

Whole thing seems kinda desperate

I would guess he didn't cut the laquer then unless the Discogs credits are wrong, it looks like Masterdisk cut the lacquer. That's the problem with these wooly terms for mastering. To give a proper picture there are really three descriptors that are used interchangeably by many:

1: "Mastering for vinyl" which is the work of preparing the record from the source to the target format, in this case ripping and EQing the DAT.
2: cutting an actual lacquer or direct-metal-mastering a disc
3: Signal path ie from a digital file, direct from tape etc.

For all we know this VMP pressing could be cut by RKS from files prepared by Bellman. Who know though, as VMP seems to not get the difference between 1-3.

The Discogs link shows Don Grossinger as cutting the lacquer on this version. While not as famous as CB or Bernie, I suspect he knows what he's doing. Previously employed by Strictly Rhythm and Nervous, and if I remember my 90's raving days, they had some quality sounding vinyl.

The announcement calls QOTSA VMP's "special edition," but not explicitly an exclusive, so I'm hoping/betting there will be other reissue variants elsewhere.
To me it seems like almost all essentials come back around in one way or another. either it will get a standard press in the near future or VMP will eventually repress more if the demand is large enough but people will FOMO hard on this. The secret is just to go with the flow and my guess it will likely work out for everyone.

Oh man, this would be so shady if true. It would explain announcing the record early too. It strikes me as odd that they are telling people to sign up now, to ensure that they get next months record. More like ensure that they pay for the VMP version before they learn about other versions! All speculation of course but it seems like the kind of smart/deceitful thing that they would try to swing.

THAT'S IT????!!

No new art, remaster- plain yellow vinyl?

mAN. Miss me with this

From the magazine - "Wayne picked the color of the vinyl, suggested the holograph lenticular cover, and gave us the art print."

That's not to mitigate anyone's disappointment, but interesting to note that many times, it's not VMP's decision. I appreciate their excitement when an artist wants to be involved, even if the artist's vision doesn't always match up with member expectations.

I think this is right. I was going to post the same thing. Can't think of any other reason, but I guess we'll see.

Yeah I think the package in total is fine but I really wish we would be getting a gatefold. They should have pushed for that at least.

Wouldn’t be shocked if QOTSA is not a true exclusive. Bellman and Pallas are not regular vendors for VMP which raises my red flag. Still could be a long while to wait, like with Demon Days before it sees a wide release.

Quite frankly I could care less if it’s a true exclusive. Good records should stay in print, not remain fetish objects.
