Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I mean I always heard Morcheeba associated to the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack, but I can't really consider them Trip Hop. Their presence on the list would have been more shocking than their absence IMO.
Morcheeba definitely has elements of Trip-Hop in their music, their debut album "Who Can You Trust?" aligned itself with the prevailing Trip-Hop subgenre which emerged at the same time in Bristol, however the London band never really considered themselves to be Trip-hop and in fact admits it being a guise to propel the group to the music's inner-ciircle to seek attention. In essence they cloaked their way to get a deal and some publicity.

Forgive my brief interruption of the Trip Hop thread, but can one of my international brethren remind me what a 3-month international sub is going for these days? Mulling over the whole Mars Volta thing...

OK, back to the trip hop.

Agreed with everyone that added Sneaker Pimps' "Becoming X" into the conversation. While "Bloodsport" had some good tunes (but wasn't very strong as an album), I actually really quite enjoyed their in-between album "Splinter". I think it only got a release in Europe, but it's the best that post-Kelli Sneaker Pimps ever got.

Other than this insanely good cover of Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur".

Also, thank you for reminding me about Lamb. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

This is why I hope they drop the ball with RHH and that 1993 essential because I don't want to spend that much but I might...
I hear ya! I was gonna take chance regardless solely based on the limited clues and guesses floating around but when Clouds Hill Music confirmed VMP was featureing De-Loused in the Commatorium by Mars Volta as their Essentials ROTM, it was a no-brainer for me. Now let's hope the other albums will be equally as great! 🤞

I mean...doesn't DJ Shadow kinda fall under that umbrella too? I don't think I ever considered him Trip Hop.

There’s a lot written about the impact dj shadow’s endtroducing….. had when it was first released. It was def a groundbreaking album, and still one of my faves, but to hear shadow in trip hop form I’d suggest picking up the MoWax compilation Headz. Alongside shadow, this takes you deep in to the MoWax catalog. I bought this when it first came out and I’m surprised I haven’t worn it out. MoWax released Headz2A and Headz2B soon after and have been on my grail list for a few years now.
DJ Krush, from his Krush debut through to MiLight is another catalog to check out for trip hop heads.

I don't know where Zen falls into his catalogue, but I would recommend this title.
