Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I have read these terms recently because I receive a lot of warps as well. This is a very recent change. I’d say in the last two weeks tops. The conspiracy theorist in me suspects right after the forum closed. Erase the early days evidence where Cam said they would replace anything that you aren’t happy with regardless of the issue affecting playback or not.
These changes are making me nervous. I really do think they were acquired by Alliance Entertainment. If they make one or two missteps in quality I'm probably headed for the hills. I will be sad tho.

At the top it says "updated 1 day ago". New changes for sure, and love the snide-ish "delivered in satin-laced boxes". Gave me a good chuckle, seems someone is having a rough time on their side. I will say, I just sent in for the issues with my Kevin Morby and Bauhaus and said I would send in evidence if needed and they offered up replacement without it. I think that may be that these were known issues with many copies though.

I personally don't receive many records with jacket damage... but if I have a flat record with jacket damage and someone has a warped record, I think we can all agree the warp should have priority for replacement. With this in mind, I'm fine with them tightening down on what qualifies for replacement and what doesn't so long as proof is required.

I do, however, think that if they're not replacing for jacket damage any longer, that they should up their standards for shipping. They won't, but they should.

If they do 100 replacements a month(I'd imagine they do more than this), they're losing out on $3,000 dollars at a time. Almost $40k a year on replacements and that's low balling it. That's an entire extra employee.

Also... I put in a replacement request around May 12th for two records and I read the terms for replacement and they were not changed at that time. They did however, ask me for proof for both so they might have been starting to implement the changes then.

Yeah I agree. There seem to be a LOT of changes lately and I can’t think of a single one that is customer centric. It’s all bottom line stuff. It’s really seems like they are trying to rid themselves of all old polices and customers, believing that their product is good enough that it will bring in new customers who will put up with their new policies. That is a pretty big gamble though with the recent price hikes. I wish I didn’t care, but I really did love this company and it’s being run into the ground.

I think the honeymoon is over once a larger company is involved.

Really has me wondering how profitable VMP really is if they're increasing the size of their releases while, conversely, increasing the amount of issues that come with their releases.
If they're cutting down on replacements then they must still be fluctuating.
Sounds like some real stress in the organization.

There is always speculationon here that they are trying to get bought out by a bigger investore. I'm not at all familiar with the industry but is it possible that they have trouble and noticing iin the moment that they are not running a profitable business? there is the price hikes, changes in replacement policy, nervous responses by matt and cam, axing of the non-exclusive store that point to cutting cost or increasing revenue per record. It might all be for making the company more attractive for a take-over or it could be panic that they notice they cant run it longer in the way. I wonder if at some point they are also cutting on the magazine. All that said in both ways it seems like poor decision making because most of the recent changes seem to cut especially from the strengths of their brand while the weaknesses (Qc, communication, shipping) see no improvement. Since i had no major issues that were not resolved an i like product but with all that is changing in the moment i would not invest in longer than 3-month subs right now.

In January they recorded a loan from Alliance Entertainment with a ton of collateral.

I just want to say that us Canadians end up paying around $50 (maybe even a bit more?) for each monthly LP (that's on a 3 month sub, probably a bit cheaper for yearly subs). For $50, the LP better be fucking perfect in every single way.. regardless of whether it affects the sound or not, at that price point, it's got to be great.

And I say that as someone who generally dgaf about things like dinged corners or split seams.

So in response to my reporting the Morby warp:

To provide context, in the last two months I’ve ordered just under 30 records and only write CS about scratches or static that effect playback, major cosmetic issues or warps that are bad enough to note the tone arm moving and I always provide video proof. I also just notify them of the problem and never ask for a particular remedy. After the De La fiasco, I email as I discover them.

Got to say I’m pretty pissed at VMP right now for the insinuation that I’m taking advantage of their CS

"I sincerely apologize..." -- the sincerity of that apology just jumps off the screen.

Agreed - I've also thought that proof, or generally tightening up on things like sleeve/cosmetic damage, is a reasonable thing.

I dunno -- if VMP is going to charge me a premium for their die-cut, glossy finish foil stamped holographic alternative color tip on jacket, then I'd like it to show up in mint condition. I expect corner dings and bends from the $15 records that Amazon tosses in a cardboard mailer, not my $30 limited edition records of the month.

Nothing to see here, just quietly dropping a change to your terms of service on your customers right before a holiday weekend...

I'm less than a year into vinyl, but every release that I've purchased new usually runs about $30 bucks if it's any sort of limited color pressing and they aren't always in mint condition. They're usually okay, a ding here or a very slight warp that's something I can deal with. If it's really bad I've had a few replaced, but it's generally not an amazing customer service experience.

My two most recent purchases outside of VMP were Tyler - Igor, and Flylo - Flamagra. Tyler was $42 after $10 dollar shipping, fucking ridiculous shipping pricing but whatever. Flylo was $28 with free shipping from Amoeba.

There are surely some exceptions to this, though, like Denzel Curry - Taboo, that is nearly half the cost of the VMP version and is still colored.

do either of you have an issue where there is a scratch between tracks 2 (Hail Mary) and 3 (Piss River) of Disc 1/Side B causing a popping/clicking sound for about a minute straight? I have this issue along with @Enoch and @Matt M as well as one that I purchased off of Discogs when VMP couldn't replace mine due to being sold out.

I am just trying to gauge how wide-spread this issue is and see if we can get them to repress it if there are enough of us out there with this problem.

I'm also having the exact same issue on my Kevin Morby at the exact same place. I've emailed CS about it yesterday.

damn, sorry to hear that. if you don't mind letting us know what CS tells you regarding a replacement as it seems half those who contact are told it's sold out and the other half are told they're getting replacements.

@Enoch @hlaveta, I'm assuming that you haven't heard anything new from CS and that you're still pending replacements? I still haven't heard back from CS on my follow up email. if I don't hear back by Tuesday I will reach out again to them.

I just checked my account and the Morby that was pending now says "shipped" with a tracking number attached ("tracking info is not available at the moment"). Sooooooooo... It appears they are sending a replacement. I'll keep you abreast of the situation.
