Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

RIP the liner note booklets, but everyone here ragged on Storf's writing anyways so maybe y'all don't see this as a big loss?

The new VMP Zine

Over the years, we’ve heard that many of you would prefer liner notes to not be inside the package. Well, good news: We're changing how we deliver liner notes moving forward.

Beginning in September and every month after that, each member shipment will include a monthly Zine. Inside each Zine will be “liner notes” for the upcoming ROTMs, plus additional content, including essays, interviews, and a look ahead. Beginning in October, ROTMs will no longer include the liner notes booklets.

Keep your eyes peeled for your September Zine, where we’ll preview October ROTMs. Any early guesses?

Zine? Oh no, I'm having a Bandbox flashback! 😖

This is a great bit:
PLUS, YOUR VINYL SHOPPING DID SOME GOOD...

For those of you who participated in our Earth Day Sale in April, you single-handedly saved 100k records from going into the landfill. You also gave us some great ideas on how we can provide you with fun bundles in the future. Mother Nature thanks you, and stay tuned as we continue to drop ‘em!

Shame about the rock track. I’m trying to think about how many may have made it to essentials. Possibly Raw Power, Is This It. Maybe Heart.

But it seems a totally sensible strategy. Maybe it’ll limit the number of filler style clangers they churn out across the wider VMP monthly universe

What is “modern” to VMP?
Im guessing this means we can see records from contemporary musicians i.e. Shabaka or Makaya McCraven in the track now, as well as other contemporary Soul, Funk, Blues acts? Not sure where the line in the sand gets drawn around what qualifies as contemporary soul, funk, and blues but who knows, could lend itself to interesting picks, or a lot more swappable ROTMS lmfao.

My worry with the consolidation is now a lot of country/rock picks are going to be flooding Essentials simply because they have to move their inventory and as a result they're going to considerably water down the idea of "Essentials" even more.

The Rock track was the only one I was still sort of interested in. But I bet with Rhino’s HiFi series and others following suit, a lot of titles from the 70s and 80s were no longer available to VMP

Sabbath and SOAD sold out pretty quick - those likely would have done well as essentials (though Sabbath already had an essentials - actually Strokes too)
