Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

as for why storf and paul have been absent from discord, storf is taking a bit of a break from the discord because his mom is in hospice 300 miles away from him and dying. paulie was really sick and also has had personal stuff going on that he didn't want to get into. he's also been just really busy with CS, work, etc. they seemed genuine about it and i don't blame storf for taking a break from the server mentally. he was also close friends with Cam and that whole thing got real fucked up with the lawsuit (he didn't say this directly but has hinted at it before).

IMO, it's really unfair to make those guys have to go out and address the elephant in the room. Matt should do it, but we all know he can't handle the heat. i know storf and paul have been made the defacto voices of VMP (and much of that is on them for interacting directly with people) but if they need to check out for their sanity, someone else needs to step in. someone asked them again if they have a comms person and they said no.

nothing else of note really. blaming other stuff for delays (RHH was delayed which held up a bunch of orders and they thought it would be fixed before thanksgiving but didn't get sorted until after everyone logged off on wednesday.) game show orders have been delayed a bit because the warehouse inventory didn't match the small numbers of stuff they sold but that should be sorted now. usual blame game. oh and thanksgiving happened which slowed things down...you know--that holiday that nobody knew was coming. i checked out of the chat after a bit.

i think neither storf nor paul have any insight into the company financials or inner dealings whatsoever. which is probably why they were trotted out and made to do an impromptu chat like that to quell any fears.
Is it too much of a rose tinted view to think that even at its most chaotic that the old VMP (old forum era) was much more coordinated than the current shower?

No. I think it was. One thing has been clear since Matt took back over, he thinks they got too big for their Britches. To be clear though, they have always struggled with scale (at least during my time since Lapsley)

more coordinated but i think simply because they were smaller in terms of subscribers, had less options/tracks, didn't have swaps for a bit, etc. their tech/site is broken. they were fucked by the plant stuff and trying to dig themselves out of a hole.

they struggle with scale because they are horrendously disorganized. they still use spreadsheets that need to be manually updated for when things come into stock...nobody within the company seems to communicate to any other area of the company.

they definitely got too big and cam kept pushing them to expand and expand. probably to get more cash to get the plant running.

Which based on the record I’ve heard (another one on the way) seems to have been completely worth it and would have set the company up to survive the nonsense of rising costs and the smaller pool of shit to pull from. It would have been an incredible asset if Trump does go all Tariff happy. The board sounds like it is just as populated as actual staff of the company. What a fucked up way to do things.

the quality is excellent at that plant. but VMP was never going to be able to scale up to press every ROTM and store drop there. They said at most they were gonna do classics and MAYBE one other track well down the line. they were not going to press records for other companies there and were still going to use GZ or other plants to press essentials and other tracks/drops. and the plant is great now because they don't have the stress of meeting monthly deadlines, can do proper quality control, etc.

i agree that if the plant was set up well and run correctly, it would have been a great asset for them. but i don't think VMP would have done as good a job running it as intended.

The board has 6 or 8 people I think (or had?) and 11 full time employees. it is fucked up.

BUT IT WASNT THEIR PLANT. Lol fucking clowns.

i think technically they had no equity in it. so it was not their plant. and half of the board voted against pursuing it at all. cam cast the deciding self-dealing vote.

i know nothing, but my read is they really wanted to be acquired by someone and the plant fucked it up. and they probably didn't discover anything about cam funneling money into the plant until they were gearing up to sell and realized that stuff was being hidden in the books.

interesting one of the guys being sued retained separate counsel and claims that VMP nearly went under a few years ago and he brought them back into profitability but then was fired.

Whoaaaa, this was one of my most listened to mixtapes back in the day. I remember even Nas cosigned this as being incredible. Would someone maybe be open to snagging it for me since my membership is up? :[

Edit: Going to give it a relisten quickly to make sure I still want it

Edit: I can get this through Get On Down, fuck pre-ordering a record from VMP in these times lol

Its been 9 days since my last VMP box has had a shipping update, they've been stuck in the "Moving through Network" status since the 27th of November. How many more days before I ping CS for a shipment lost in transit and request replacements?
I would go ahead and ping them, especially given CS’s randomness in timely responses.

This appears to be a wide release with many variants, fyi.

I’m guessing it just got stuck with Black Friday shipping. I’d bet you still get it but worth emailing if you’re worried about it

i hope they are able to right the ship but I’m still waiting on my Grateful Dead box after all this time.
I think at this point you probably understand the risk but if it were me, I would be requesting a cancel/refund. If they go belly up you won’t be getting a refund or a box set. Most of those albums are now in print and sound fantastic. If they ever do restock the title you could order the box set then but I wouldn’t want to be the one left holding the bag.
