Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I think just some smaller shops bailed that were only buying a handful of certain titles. HHV and some bigger shops still have tons of VMP releases. HHV has 240 VMP albums in stock and I believe they added newer stuff since they first started buying from VMP wholesale.

Balades Sonores, one of the most famous records shop in Paris, said they would stop having them because they are too expensive.

not surprised. i imagine most of these stores didn't even look into which titles were desired or worth selling. was surprised at how many shitty titles HHV picked up to sell for $30-40.

So I just got an email that Black Sabbath is shipping in my February box. Which is rad, except:
1) I haven’t been a member for 10 months
2) I’m international and I thought they didn't ship to us anymore.
3) I never ordered Master of Reality
4) I hope it’s a blue variant since blue is my best friend’s favourite colour.

.around my marrow.

they definitely still ship to internationals. you just can't rejoin on a new sub. i think MoR repress went live about a year ago at this point. They have also changed how they process customs, so if you didn't order it and don't want it you may get hit with a customs bill. but if you didn't pay for it then....

lol.

I got a reminder to make my selection before the deadline even though I have cancelled my membership and terminated the payment method. Which they are aware of because they emailed me about both.

Got the same email. Haven't been a member since 2023 and never ordered MoR. Also haven't received an email from VMP in ages. Maybe they are so in need of good will they are going through their rolodex of past customers and...

Dang! I didn't get that email! Granted, I also didn't order MoR. But I can't even get them to ship the 3 records I ordered 2 weeks ago.

Oh, 3 individual orders to 3 different addresses. All in stock. I sure as hell paid for direct shipping.
I understand I'm not important anymore since I'm no longer a member, but jeeeeez. "Ready to ship!" my ass.
If you want anything timely, don’t order from VMP hah. I ordered a record for somebody and didn’t bother paying direct shipping because they probably won’t ship it until the fulfillment window anyway.

there was an impromptu live discord session.

the most interesting detail that I saw was that apparently Sony is a minority owner in Get on Down and MoFI....which is why MoFi is able to continue getting Sony releases.

Also Anohi release is dead. New Folk Sound by Terry Callier is dead (supposedly to an "expensive reissue label" doing it at some point....maybe craft one step?)

Also probably means Sony has no interest in leasing catalog to VMP unless the price is right. VMP is an "expensive reissue label", ironic if they labeled a competitor that way during the session.

not just VMP-- most other reissue labels. Sony was already being stingy with tapes and I wonder if the MoFi connection is a new-ish detail now that MoFi have a pressing plant.

in the grand scheme of things, VMP is middle to upper tier reissue label price-wise. the new exclusives are around $40-$45 for members, which puts them in AP/MoFi/Impex single LP territory. Not talking about quality, simply price. I'm guessing "Expensive reissue" is something along the lines of a 1 step which makes me think it will be a Craft Small Batch title. Or a UHQR.

The "expensive" comment was also verbatim from someone else who watched it before y'all come out with the pitchforks hah

I received a MoFi catalog this week and it had a cool Miles photo on the cover. It had MoFi records and their audio equipment (as well as other brands). it appears they are trying to cover all parts of the hobby.
There are no pitchforks up in here, just tough love.

Yea--that's the music direct catalogue. MoFi has done tons of Miles reissues. I hadn't seen anywhere that Sony is a part owner of MoFi now though--that was the interesting tidbit for me. Someone elsewhere was commenting the other day that MoFi was doing Sony titles so why couldn't VMP or other labels. It's all making sense now though.

MoFi electronics have been around for awhile now too. I have their Ultradeck turntable and love it. They seem to be pushing toward higher end stuff now as their "lower end" equipment is mostly getting discontinued. I think some people here have their speakers too and like them
