it is. haven't had to wash it more than once yet but seems fine so far on that front!

Honest question: what're the appeal of test pressings? Are they supposed to sound better or is it just a novelty thing?

Technically could sound better but more novelty than anything.

And…technically could sound worse if there’s an issue that needs to be caught (thus a “test pressing”). More than likely it sounds the same (TP is approved) or sounds worse (TP is rejected for an issue). It is extremely rare that you get a LZII/RL situation where a better sounding pressing is rejected.
