Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

We don't need to argue about VMP's record (ba dum tiss). We all have gripes with VMP's communication and QC. No need to fight over who hates them more and who spends their money where.

You are right. I'm sorry to you, everyone else and @Enoch .

It just gets under my skin to see people paying the price for a premium product and not getting it.

If VMP pressings were inexpensive, I think I'd be more forgiving. They aren't in the overall scheme of things.

As an example, Warner Brothers/Rhino are less expensive, as are MoFi Silver Series. MoFi Original Masters and Analogue Productions are slightly more expensive. All are uniformly superior to VMP.

I'll say "uniformly" because I've received some killer VMP Classics reissues. Others have had issues.

If one charges a premium price, they should deliver a premuim product. VMP has lots to learn, IMO.

And at this point, I'll not comment again on VMP. You know where I stand.

No disagreements from me with any of that. VMP needs to get people their stuff, plain and simple. Though I've gotten resoundingly lucky with all of my records in terms of quality and in being on time (aside from Queen and Nat Turner), so I'll keep buying from them if they're putting out records that I like. Though I certainly don't blame anyone who's done buying from them.

no apology needed this is what these forums are for to give our opinions on various topics as long as we keep it respectful, i do agree we need to be civil to one another but Enoch was coming off as a VMP apologist.

I love the first part of this sentence and completely agree but I have been reading the same conversation and I really think @Enoch was simply sharing information. How we choose to receive the information, or how he "comes across" is more about our own viewpoint than his. I appreciate the information he shares, I don't think he was being apologist but that's my view. I do think that calling him a fanboy is unfair, but appreciate that you apologised personally @HiFi Guy. I think in this conversation any clarifying information is helpful, whether or not the clarification itself is what we might want to hear, and I'm wary of our frustrations with VMP being, perhaps unintentionally, deflected on to individuals here. I'm also aware that I may come across as an Enoch apologist but I'm ok with that! ☮

my views are just that an opinion & not to be taken to heart as my intention is not to ever have anyone feel personally attacked even tho they might not agree with/like what i say.

On another note, I saw The Comet Is Coming last night and they were as incredible live as everyone has been saying. The show wasn’t even sold out, so if you have the chance, go and have your mind blown. I have the non VMP version of the second album and was hoping to find a copy of their first album at the merch table, but alas, no merch at all. 😢

Here's the thing though, you can have an opinion but then calling someone an apologist (as in this case) or anything else moves it from an opinion to labeling someone. If you are wondering why I am taking a certain approach just ask.

I 100% get why people are upset with VMP. I get quite upset with them too. In the Weyes Blood and now Hatchie issues, I am upset, I just don't view this as equal with other issues VMP has had. I don't have a background in how all of the exclusives work when they are just a color variant, but from what I can tell based on VMP and other companies that get them, it is all the same pressing, done at the same plant and distributed through the same channels. So VMP's variants going out to the wrong places doesn't appear to be VMP's fault. So just in these two cases I personally don't fault VMP but on the larger scale it is not a good look because there have been things that VMP should have controlled better or just dropped the ball on altogether (Nat, Outkast, delayed exclusives, Anthology, poor shipping due to their continued use of SC, communication, etc). I 100% blame VMP for those issues and they need to fix all of those things.

I joined VMP for curation. I think a lot of us agree that each month they curated at least a couple of great things. Due to their issues, some have chosen to follow their curation but buy from different sources. Others, myself included, are not wanting to do that at this time. My reason is I have invested a lot of time and money into VMP and I have a completionist OCD thing (this extends to other companies too, you should have seen me yesterday trying to buy Soul Step's latest Wax Mage variant). I am not yet willing to give up on my collecting of VMP things as I am not sure I wouldn't regret it. I promise all of you I have been looking at it long and hard. There are things that give me hope and things that dash it. We all have different lines about VMP including in certain circumstances.

So in this instance, I am not personally faulting VMP, but in the past I have helped lead the charge (Snoop Dogg). Some may see me as a hypocrite for being critical yet continuing to support VMP in the ways that I do, I think that too sometimes. I am fine with dissenting opinions, they tend to help me better understand my own, either that I may need to reexamine my position or that I feel confident in my current line of thinking. It is when opinions move from opinion to ad hominem where I have the problem. I thank @HiFi Guy for apologizing. I completely understand his stance and why he has made his choice and based on his takes on things I believe he has made the right decision for him regarding VMP. I just ask we share our opinions and not make them personal. Debate is great, ad hominems are bad.

We all respect you and your opinions on here. This forum is a better place for you being here. Many i’m Sure are perhaps jealous of your kick ass collection.

I’m not jealous of it. You have a serious lack of Ronnie James Dio.

But we can/or can’t buy from VMP without prejudice. I’ve given them criticism (and plenty of slack) in the past but if they had something I really wanted at a reasonable price i’ll be using them again.

I lack a ton of stuff I would like to have, in fact I would say the 70's and 80's, in general, are severely lacking, followed by the 90's, the 00's, the 50's, the 60's, the 40's, the 30's, the 20's, and both the 10's, so pretty much everything!

You have the same problem as I have. Serious work needed before we have everything ever

They had vinyl here at the Portland show but appeared to be completely sold out by the end of the night.

Looks like they just added a bunch of previously sold out titles back to the store. Jacklin, jamila, big thief, sasami etc.

Stella Donnelly is back as well. Great album, though I actually prefer Secretly's opaque olive to VMP's translucent pineapple. Not surprisingly, all five are low stock. Also not surprisingly, I ended up buying 4 of 5 (don't own Sasami) elsewhere when they were inevitably delayed, etc.

I will also add, the fact that they did not run out of replacement copies on these would suggest that there were likely fewer QC issues, which is a good thing if you are thinking of grabbing one.
