What's Spinning

Middle Kids "Lost friends"

This was my alternative take for the Challenge thread yesterday dealing with a record giving hope. I would've chosen it predominantly for the song "Don't be hiding" which is about not being afraid of being rejected by others. If someone loves you that person will love both the garbage and the gold as it's said in the lyrics. It's a nice hopeful song and a great record. 👍

You like Hughie Lewis & The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
Sean Hopper and other musicians that worked for both have a lot to do with those comparisons. Many of the folks on My Aim True worked with the News through out the years.
