What's Spinning

@TenderLovingKiller® I said I’d give you my initial impressions. I’m just past halfway and I love this mix. it’s so pared back and raw and the drums are so far forward in the mix. It has a great, almost live, feel and energy to it.
That’s Albini’s way just let the music speak for itself. I think hadn’t grown up listening to the regular mix I may prefer this but my ear keeps searching for the missing parts. I think raw is a very apt description and for a band like Nirvana that is never a bad thing.

Yeah there were a couple of songs where Im convinced I could hear the ghost of some missing parts...

I don’t know if I like this more than the original, I also grew up with that, but I love that it exists and do think that raw suits Nirvana!

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#152: Lee Koonitz - Alone Together

IMG_20200226_061124.jpg

I had never heard of this album until it waas announced as part of the BN80 campaign, and honestly it didn't grab my attention at the time. One day I decided to give it a try on Spotify and I was hooked midway thru the first track. Lee plays in a mellow and inventive fashion, and Charlie Haden proves way he's one of the best sidemen in the history of jazz. Yet, what stood out the most to me was Brad Mehldau's playing, which simultaniously blends in and contrasts with the sax and bass. His piano playing is bright, inventive and at moments angular. He is able to back Lee up when needed, but as soon as its his turn to solo he seemlessly transitions into a different room. Give it a try if you haven't yet, it is one of my favorite recent discoveries.
