I have now compared the MOFI SuperVinyl (wearing my cape as I type this; not 'cause it's "super", mind you. Completely unrelated. I just want to paint a picture. Me. Cape. Donald Duckin' it) and 50th Ann of Crosby If I Could Only Remember My Name.
BLUF: The 50th (also pressed at RTI, for US vers and that's what I have) is really good and the appropriate buy for most.
One would expect the SV to be superior simply based on the price difference. And it is in sound. It provides more separation at 45 RPM and for an album with such beautiful vocals and use of studio reverb, it is noticeable. With that said, if the 50th Ann is what you're spinning, you will not be disappointed and you will love the one you're with (oh shit, he's not on this album, is he?).
But it comes down to two things, IMO. 1) How you feel about 45 RPM albums and more side flipping. Honestly, I found it kind of moot for this album. It still flows well and, for example, side 1 gives about 11 minutes of music before you have to Mousercise your audiophile ass up to the TT.
2) The price difference. I paid $25 for the 50th at my local and $75 for the SV. The SV is better but not necessarily $50 better...UNLESS this is one of your top tier albums and it holds a special listening place for you. But the sound quality difference, while there, is not staggering. If $50 more quality was put into the 50th Ann (ok, ok I know this isn't how records work) then it would be like the Bane to the SV's Batman, the Doomsday to its Superman, the Dave Thomas to its Wendy, the genetics to my hairline.
