Definitive Audiophile pressings

Hopefully not a repost… don’t @ me! View attachment 149182
Stupid lawyer with stupid clients.

There is no problem with claiming 'analog recording' if it was originlly an analog recording. Nocase on that.

Similarly, no issue with claiming 'original master recording' - that talks about the original recording, not the remastering/new cut.

100% a contingency based lawsuit, a pure fishing expedition to extract some settlement cash. A bully claim, in other words.

I don't know about that 🤔

Here's the braille tape.

Pretty sure I bought a record from the same discogs seller. Relatively new, less than 20 reviews, shipped out of Nashville? I bought a fairly pricy soul record from them at a relatively great price. Record looks pretty clean, but the sleeve was similarly rough with the KOPN call letters also. Haven’t spun it yet, but gave it a bath and is in my queue.

Ah, different seller. KOPN must’ve unloaded their record collection recently. The seller I bought from has a bunch of listings similarly graded with a note of radio station call letters written on sleeves and labels.

The 2014 reissue of Gang of Four's "Entertainment!" pressed at Optimal completely kills my original Canadian pressing. The drums on the Canadian OG sound like they come through a tin can, especially apparent on the breakdown in Damaged Goods. The 2014 corrects that, keeps the rich bass and the instruments have their own clear space in the mix. I Found That Essence Rare sounds especially wonderful on the reissue. Pressing is very quiet too. I'm sure the 2014 is digital, but this is the copy I'm keeping.

Not sure how the 2014 Optimal compares with the version in the 77-81 box from 2021, but those are pressed at GZ and have different runout, suggesting the plates differ from the Optimal.

I think @jamieanderson1968 made this rec to me a while back. Cheers man.

Glad you got a copy. That 2014 press is great. That is an album where you need great sounding bass and drums

The only knock, maybe, is that it's possibly be a little less dynamic than my Canadian pressing, but the mix as a whole is not all that dynamic anyway. It's just an all out in-your-face attack. It more than makes up for it with better drums and instrument separation.

Just wanted to say that this was really spot on. Wondering if this was for the suit in WA or here in the "Northern District of Illinois" brought by some guy from NC. These really are the lowest of the low (though sadly, the highest paid of the profession).

I may be alone here, but has anyone been somewhat exhausted by the last few months of audiophile talk, on top of the cost of things these days? Recently I’ve been going through my collection and found so many treasures from over the years that I almost forgot about. Sure, I always enjoy a great sounding record, but what really got me into collecting was discovering new music. And there’s so much older stuff that already sounds great.

I feel like over these last few years there’s been so many reissues of the same stuff, at higher costs, and almost like a race to collect all these audiophile releases as fast as possible before they skyrocket. Most of it is excellent, but part of me feels exhausted by it all. This recent MoFi shenanigans and the cost of audiophile records (or even most new records) really has me going back to collecting to search for great older presses in the wild or new music in local shops and whatnot. In a way, it almost became too easy to buy the best of the best online.

That’s the end of my rant, but felt like this was the only place where someone may relate. My wife could care less!

No, my wife could care less! Haha ;)

I hear you loud and clear. I have experienced a similar general malaise with the direction my collecting has taken (much as you've described it). Unfortunately, this hasn't yet 'corrected' my buying habits to any significant degree, but the thought process is changing in ways you've hinted at, so perhaps behavior will follow. Doesn't read like a rant to me, speaking for myself, sort of like the rat thinking long enough to turn back and get a good look at the fucking maze he's been running, with an eye toward finding a way out.

My God, man - are you suggesting buying records should actually be about the artist and the music they create, not the limited this, the numbered that?

Hello, friend. You're my people.
