Needed to get some achievements for my weekly MS rewards set, so I decided to give Mortal Shell a try. I don't know if I'm too Souls-pilled, but what started as an interesting take on the genre turned quickly to frustration. It felt like the design was focused on using the hardening ability, but the recharge is incredibly slow, so you still have to rely on dodging a lot. I had issues with dropped inputs trying to dodge, and the camera being more zoomed in made it surprisingly difficult to judge distance. Also, dodge roll is a double tap of the button, and only rolls after the dodge step, which was frustrating to try and get the timing on. I like the shell and hardening concepts, but the controls were just too frustrating. I did end up playing some DS3 last night and had a much better time.

I did this so I could take on Rennala, who I still haven't beaten by the way, truly awfully designed boss, and now I'm way over leveled for Limgrave and the Peninsula south of Limgrave. I was afraid of the huge enemy shooting arrows at you on the Peninsula so I never cleared it, but I rode Torrent up to him and killed him in like 3 hits 😅

As for Rennala, it wouldn't be that bad of a boss if there was a Site of Grace that didn't require you to run past a bunch of enemies to get to and then wait for the lift. Plus the first stage in the Library is so tedious and annoying. If it was only the second phase I'm sure I'd have beaten her already, but it's a good 10 minutes before you're able to get back into the more difficult second phase, so I've only really had a dozen attempts so far.

Started playing Elden Ring last night and realized I have no idea what I'm doing.

I can't figure out how to level up. Which I want to do as currently taking just 1 or 2 hits means death. I've got enough runes to level up a few times now. But couldn't actually figure out how to do it. I found a bench where I could spend runes on upgrades but I didn't have any of the required materials. But I don't think that is leveling up. Needless to say, I keep losing all my runes when something pops out and surprises me and I get hit from my blind side.

You have to rest at a site of grace to level up.

Just in case you weren't aware, when you die with a significant amount of runes, priority should be getting them back as soon/conservatively as possible before you die again. You don't lose them permanently until you die twice.

To piggyback, I believe you unlock the ability to level up at the third site of grace you discover, regardless of which one that is. So if you haven’t found three sites yet, that may be fueling the confusion.

Thanks! Totally forgot about that and my comment was completely unhelpful without that.

I have visited 7 sites of grace so far and haven't unlocked the ability yet. I guess I need to find the one at Church Of Ellah to unlock the ability?

I don't have enough of the map revealed to even use what I have as a point of reference. lol. Guess I'll just continue to explore around the ruins where I came out of tutorial cave.

That tutorial cave is the one of the sites shown in the tight triangle of sites at the bottom slightly left of center of the map @wokeupnew shared.

The map shows you where the map fragments are you need fill it in:

I found the Site of Grace I was looking for. I was close so many times. I never got to it because the soldiers always sounded the alarm and killed me in the past.

Now that I have leveling up. What are the most important attributes I would to focus on leveling up early in the game so I don't keep getting an ass whooping.

Vitality will give you more health and Endurance will give you more stamina (which means more blocking and rolling) as well as let you wear heavier armor or have a heavier shield (if you want one).

Otherwise depends on what build you want to have or if you want to use some gear that requires it.

Anyone else as stupid as me and forget you could run? I didn't realize it until I got through Stormveil, haha.
