That’s a nice one - my preorder is in!

Very sad to hear of Barbara Thompson's struggles. Thompson is a British icon, one of the few female jazz musicians to have made a mark during the golden era. It would almost be impossible to list all of her achievements in one go, she really is an amazing musician.

Unfortunately, she has been battling Parkinson's for quite a while now and earlier her daughter shared that Thompson has been asleep at home all week and is in her final days. I have been fortunate enough to see her a few times in passing (she lives down the road from me) and it's always a pleasure to see someone so important to British jazz.

Here's to a true musical legend.

For Blue Note my votes are:

Tone Poets
Curtis Amy & Dupree Bolton – Katanga!
Grant Green – Nigeria
Lee Morgan – Cornbread

***I've heard amazing things about Andrew Hill's Passing Ships and there are a lot of these I've not yet checked out.

Classic Vinyl Series
Hank Mobley – Soul Station
Eric Dolphy – Out To Lunch!
Brother Jack McDuff – Moon Rappin'

***I also firmly believe you can never go wrong with any of Jimmy Smith's Blue Note releases
Soul Station is really great!
Thanks for the solid recommendation there.

Probably one of the best BNCs.

I came so close to buying a copy recently after I read that the master tapes were supposedly lost. I'm really thrilled they're reissuing this one. Acoustic Sounds series too so this must be AAA and the tapes are still around then!

I hope it will be widely distributed like other AS series ? Asking for the Paladin Buyers Club.

@MikeH

Surely it will be just like the others in the series and they'll release them widely?

I just received and now am playing my new Acoustic Sounds pressing of The Poll Winners and I must say…

It’s a winner.

If you like this style of jazz, run, don’t walk, to get your copy. I was predisposed to like it as I own two other Poll Winners albums, but even then this one surprised me.

That's cool.
Did you buy from Craft or AS?

Sad to share that Barbara Thompson MBE passed away yesterday morning just a few days shy of her 78th birthday. A true jazz icon.
