Political Discussion

What do you all thing about this.

Is the United States moving further right as a whole, or is the left just disinvested?
The United States is moving further right partially because the left has been entirely vilified and alienated by the centrist Dems, while organized labour has been decimated by both parties for decades. The Dems accept Republicans' framing on every issue from the economy to the environment. They will never win this way, and the long-term effect of it is that there are two right parties and actual leftists have no one working for their votes.

I knew you were not an “I Told You So” type but I did want to say that you were completely right on pretty much the entire election.

Trump winning not only sucks for everyone right now but MAGA has completely destroyed the Obama coalition and has set back any sort of meaningful resistance. Many, myself included looked at Trump’s 2016 election as an outlier and wrongly assumed that my fellow Americans, when shown the type of person he was, would do the only rational thing a good person could by stomping out that flame. This election has completely altered my world view. This time there won’t be protests or people assuming there are things they can do to influence meaningful change. We are selfish greedy species. I feel for everyone not living in a blue state but even that will only protect some so much. The safety net is going to disappear.

The future is bleak and I am tired. There will be no resistance.

You were right.
There will always be resistance. Not the time to roll over. Time to work.

Delusional to blame voters and not the one trying to earn their votes. Democrats are never going to learn.
Fuck the Democratic Party,

Call me delusional. I definitely gonna blame voters, THEY VOTED FOR TRUMP. This goes beyond party. To basic human decency. You can excuse their actions if you want and act like Trump is just another politician but that is simply not the case.

Getting lectures from the Far Left this morning as American democracy ends is really helpful.

Don’t think you will have to worry about the Democratic Party being in power too often going forward hope you are good with the alternative.

I agree. Things feel and look fucking dire but we have to fight tooth and nail for the soul of this country. But today I’m not feeling that fight, I feel defeated. To quote Billy Joel “it's hard to keep a good man down, But I won't be getting up today”. I’ll get back to fighting, but today I need to mourn

If you thought the left was disinvested before you will be amazed at how little they give a fuck now.
For my own mental sanity I'm going to unplug from politics for a little bit. Similar to how I did back in 2017 but there was still some positive things going on with "resistance" politics. I removed Twitter from my daily scrolling back in June~ and it did wonders for my mental health. I kept up with it a little bit recently because that's where instant election news is. I need to purge it again and I think it'll better for me. But yeah, I'm the Left and I'm unplugging.

Back in 2016, I cynically thought, "maybe things need to get really bad before things get better" and they got bad but not as bad as I thought. Maybe all these people voting for him with optimism will finally feel the pain of his policies. Eventually all these bad things will come for them.

Dems need to finally embrace progressive policies because they cannot go more to the right than they did this election.

Man, I'm not happy about Trump winning. I'm not "lecturing." If many of you would like to point fingers at your neighbours instead of, y'know, the people in power who had the opportunity to do something about this and to refuse to engage in any self-reflection, again, feel free.

Cool, I will self reflect while the world burns .

The power belongs to the people. This is what they wanted. I don’t blame my neighbors I know how they voted.

The good people were defeated. Good people still exist and will work to help others get by. There are good people in Russia and Hungry and China too but there is no resistance. The good fight is over and our side lost.

You don't think there's resistance happening within Russia and Hungary right now? Mutual aid will always exist, and it needs go become the main focus, and not putting all your chips on your "side" being the one in charge.

NBC's political analyst is saying is talking about what resinated with black voters in swing states. And what was an that was running in heavy rotation by Trump's campaign.

The one where it says Harris is for "They/Them" and Trump is for "Us". Every black voter was aware of this ad. And it resinated with them. It was also never countered by Harris' campaign.

I have zero hope. People will pay lip service they will make angry social media TikTok’s but there isnt going to be protests in the streets like in 2016 this is what the people wanted. This is what America is.

I envy you for getting out.
Depressing, but not untrue.

It seems to me that there are two fundamental flaws in the American system.

First - the whole notion of registering as a Republican or Democrat. No other western country does this. It locks people in ideologically and creates cult like affinity.

Second - the notion of a constitutional republic. No other western country does this. If the U.S. were under a parliamentary system, outcomes would be vastly different. You would not be able to elect a dictator, parties would have to go to the people every four years based on a clear record that they can't escape, and whoever wins the party leadership will be the person running the government.

Neither will change, particularly as long as you have fundamentalists in the Supreme Court who arw able to hide under the guise of 'originalism'.

BTW, did anyone notice the look on Ivanka's face last night? She looked like she just swallowed a load of the old guys disgusting jism.
